It is also used to treat postoperative wound infections. Povidone-iodine is an antiseptic applied on skin infected or likely to get infected. It slowly releases iodine which kills or prevents the growth of these microorganisms. Metronidazole, being bactericidal in nature, kills the bacteria by damaging its genetic material (DNA) and preventing its growth, hence relieving the symptoms. Together, Peedon-M Ointment prevents the growth of the microorganisms and promotes early wound healing.
