Sefepime Injection belongs to the group of antibiotic medicines called cephalosporin antibiotics. Sefepime Injection is used to treat respiratory tract infection, urinary tract infection, skin, intraabdominal, gynaecological, bacterial meningitis (infection of the brain and spinal cord) in children, and infection of the bloodstream. Sefepime Injection is a broad-spectrum antibiotic active against both gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria. Sefepime Injection prevents the formation of bacterial cell covering, which is necessary for their survival. Thereby, kills the bacteria and helps in treating and preventing the spread of infections.

Diarrhoea might be a side-effect of Sefepime Injection. Drink lots of fluids and eat non-spicy food if you experience diarrhoea. If you find blood in stools (tarry stools) or if you have severe diarrhoea, consult your doctor. Do not take anti-diarrheal medicine on your own.

Sefepime Injection may cause thrush or candidiasis, a fungal infection occurring due to the overgrowth of yeast-like fungus in the mouth or throat. Regularly rinse your mouth with water to prevent fungal infections.

It is recommended to complete the course of Sefepime Injection even if you feel better as it is an antibiotic, and leaving it in between may lead to even severe infection that will, in fact, stop responding to the antibiotic as well (antibiotic resistance).

Sefepime Injection may cause increased coagulation time (increased thromboplastin/ prothrombin time) which is the time required for the blood to clot. Therefore, be cautious while using any sharp objects and consult a doctor immediately if you notice any unusual bleeding or bruising.

Sefepime Injection might increase the effect of coumarin (anticoagulant medicine), therefore, consult a doctor before taking them together.
