Abendol Oral Suspension belongs to a group of antiparasitic drugs called 'anthelmintic' used to treat parasites worm infections like neurocysticercosis (infection caused by pork tapeworm) and cystic hydatid disease (infection caused by dog tapeworm). Additionally, Abendol Oral Suspension is also used to treat infections caused by roundworms, hookworms, threadworms, whipworms, pinworms, flukes, and other parasites.
Abendol Oral Suspension contains ‘Albendazole’, which works by inhibiting tubulin polymerisation. This causes metabolic disruption and energy depletion in the parasite, which leads to its immobilisation. Thereby, Abendol Oral Suspension kills the susceptible helminth and treats the infection.
Take Abendol Oral Suspension as prescribed. You are advised to take Abendol Oral Suspension for as long as your doctor has prescribed it for you, depending on your medical condition. You may experience certain common side effects, such as stomach pain, nausea, vomiting, headache, and dizziness in some cases. Most of these side effects do not require medical attention and will resolve gradually over time. However, you are advised to talk to your doctor if you experience these side effects persistently.

Abendol Oral Suspension inhibits tubulin polymerisation, which causes metabolic disruption and energy depletion in the parasite. This leads to the immobilisation of the parasite. Do not take Abendol Oral Suspension if you are allergic to any of its contents. Abendol Oral Suspension may cause bone marrow suppression, aplastic anaemia, and agranulocytosis. Inform your doctor if you have/had liver disease; if you have any surgery, including dental surgery. Consult your doctor immediately if you experience seizures, vomiting, headache, extreme tiredness, or behaviour changes while taking Abendol Oral Suspension. Regular blood cell count and liver function monitoring is advised during treatment with Abendol Oral Suspension. Abendol Oral Suspension causes metabolic disruption and energy depletion in the parasite, which leads to its immobilisation. Thereby, Abendol Oral Suspension kills the susceptible helminth and treats the infection.
For neurocysticercosis, Abendol Oral Suspension is usually prescribed for 8-30 days. For cystic hydatid disease, Abendol Oral Suspension is usually prescribed for 28 days, followed by a 14 day break, and repeated for a total of 3 cycles.
Do not discontinue Abendol Oral Suspension without consulting your doctor. To treat your condition effectually continue taking Abendol Oral Suspension for as long as prescribed. Do not be reluctant to speak with your doctor if you feel any difficulty while taking Abendol Oral Suspension.
You are recommended to avoid planning for pregnancy while taking Abendol Oral Suspension as it may cause foetal harm. A pregnancy test should be done before starting the treatment with Abendol Oral Suspension, and women must use effective birth-control while taking Abendol Oral Suspension and for at least 1month after cessation of treatment.
Regular monitoring of blood count at the beginning of each cycle therapy and for every 2weeks while taking Abendol Oral Suspension is advised for all patients. Treatment with Abendol Oral Suspension should be discontinued if a significant decrease in blood cell count is observed.
Treatment with Abendol Oral Suspension has been associated with mild to moderate elevations of liver enzymes. These elevations generally return to normal upon discontinuation of Abendol Oral Suspension. Liver function tests should be performed before each treatment cycle and for every 2weeks during the treatment. Treatment with Abendol Oral Suspension should be discontinued if the liver enzymes exceed twice the upper limit of normal.
Abendol Oral Suspension might increase the chances of getting an infection. Maintain proper hygiene and try to stay away from people with infections, flu or cold.
