About Alzolvet Suspension

Alzolvet Suspension is an anti-parasite medicine used to treat different parasitic infections in children. Parasitic infections are diseases caused by parasites (micro-organisms) that live in or on another host/organism. Alzolvet Suspension is used in treating infections of the roundworms, hookworms, threadworms, whipworms, pinworms, and flukes caused by parasites. It is also used to treat neurocysticercosis (infection caused by pork tapeworm) and cystic hydatid disease (infection caused by dog tapeworm).

Alzolvet Suspension contains Albendazole as an active ingredient belonging to the class of benzimidazole drugs. It works by inhibiting tubulin polymerisation, causing metabolic disruption and energy depletion in the parasite, leading to immobilization. This eventually leads to the death of susceptible helminths and thus prevents the growth of parasitic infections. 

Alzolvet Suspension may cause certain side effects in your child, such as indigestion, diarrhea, nausea, metallic taste, vomiting, headache, and stomach pain. These side effects do not require medical attention and gradually resolve over time. However, if the side effects persist or worsen, please consult your pediatrician. Alzolvet Suspension should be given as advised by your doctor. Do not give the child more than the prescribed dose of Alzolvet Suspension. Generally, the dose of the medicine will be decided by your pediatrician depending upon the type and severity of the infection.

Alzolvet Suspension is intended for pediatric use only. Avoid giving Alzolvet Suspension to your child if she/he is allergic to antibiotics. Keep your doctor informed about your child’s health condition, medications, and medical history to rule out any side effects/interactions. Avoid giving Alzolvet Suspension if you notice any unusual bleeding or bruising symptoms in your child, and consult your paediatrician immediately.

Directions for Use

Shake the container well before each use. Measure the required amount of Alzolvet Suspension into the measuring cup and administer it to your child. It is advised to measure the quantity accurately with the help of a syringe or measuring spoon/cup containing markings.

Alzolvet Suspension contains Albendazole. It is a broad-spectrum anthelmintic that acts against intestinal nematode and cestode infection. Side effects of Alzolvet Suspension 30 ml
  • Drink water or other clear fluids.
  • To prevent worsening of pain, limit intake of tea, coffee, or alcohol.
  • Include bland foods like rice, toast, crackers, and rice in your diet.
  • Avoid lying down immediately after eating as it may cause indigestion or heartburn.
  • Avoid acidic and spicy food as it may cause indigestion.
  • See a dermatologist or doctor to determine why your hair is thinning.
  • Your doctor may suggest stopping the medication and recommend over-the-counter Minoxidil (available in liquid or shampoo forms) or other treatments if needed.
  • Wash your hair gently with a mild shampoo and conditioner.
  • Avoid harsh chemicals, and do not wash your hair too often.
  • Try to limit the use of heat-styling tools like straighteners and blow dryers.
  • Reduce stress with relaxation methods like meditation or yoga.
  • Eat a balanced diet with plenty of vitamins and minerals like zinc, magnesium, iron, and biotin.
  • Include omega-3-rich foods, such as tuna, salmon, chia seeds, flaxseeds, soybeans, and walnuts, in your meals.
  • Eat protein-rich foods like fish, poultry, eggs, and legumes.
  • Include foods with minerals and vitamins essential for hair health.
  • Join a support group to connect with others experiencing hair loss.
  • Openly discuss your feelings about hair loss.
  • Consider covering up with wigs, hats, or scarves.
  • Be patient and avoid seeking miracle cures.
Here's a comprehensive approach to managing medication-triggered fever:
  • Inform your doctor immediately if you experience a fever after starting a new medication.
  • Your doctor may adjust your medication regimen or dosage as needed to minimize fever symptoms.
  • Monitor your body temperature to monitor fever progression.
  • Drink plenty of fluids, such as water or electrolyte-rich beverages, to help your body regulate temperature.

Co-administration of Alzolvet Suspension 30 ml with Clozapine may increase the risk of infection.

How to manage the interaction:
Although there is a possible interaction between Alzolvet Suspension 30 ml and Clozapine, you can take these medicines together if advised by your doctor. However, if you develop symptoms such as chills, diarrhea, fever, sore throat, shortness of breath, muscle pains, blood in phlegm, weight loss, red or inflamed skin, body sores, and pain or burning during urination, contact a doctor immediately. Do not discontinue the medication without consulting a doctor.

Taking Alzolvet Suspension 30 ml with Cladribine can increase the risk of side effects.

How to manage the interaction:
Although taking Cladribine and Alzolvet Suspension 30 ml together can evidently cause an interaction, it can be taken if a doctor has suggested it. If you have any of these symptoms, contact a doctor right away. These symptoms include fever, chills, diarrhea, sore throat, muscle aches, difficulty breathing, weight loss, and pain or burning when you urinate.
