About ASCODEX PLUS EXPECTORANT 100ML
ASCODEX PLUS EXPECTORANT 100ML belongs to a group of medicines called expectorants and cough products used to treat cough. Coughing (dry or productive) is a body's way of clearing irritants (like allergens, mucus or smoke) from airways, thereby preventing respiratory infection. The cough may be of two types, namely: Dry cough and Chesty cough. A dry cough is tickly and doesn't produce any vicious or thick mucus, while a chesty cough produces mucous or sputum.
ASCODEX PLUS EXPECTORANT 100ML is a combination of four drugs, namely: Ammonium chloride (expectorant), Bromhexine (mucolytic agent), Diphenhydramine (antihistamine), and Guaifenesin (expectorant). Ammonium chloride and Guaifenesin help loosen the congestion in the chest and throat, making it easier to cough out. Bromhexine reduces mucous viscosity, thereby helps in coughing out phlegm. Diphenhydramine blocks the action of a chemical substance called histamine, which is responsible for causing allergic reactions. Together, ASCODEX PLUS EXPECTORANT 100ML helps in treating cough.
You are advised to take ASCODEX PLUS EXPECTORANT 100ML for as long as your doctor has prescribed it for you depending on your medical condition. In some cases, you may experience certain common side-effects such as nausea, diarrhoea, indigestion, headache, stomach pain, dizziness. Most of these side-effects do not require medical attention and will resolve gradually over time. However, you are advised to talk to your doctor if you experience these side-effects persistently.
If you are known to be allergic to ASCODEX PLUS EXPECTORANT 100ML or any other medicines, please tell your doctor. Consult your doctor if you are pregnant or breastfeeding. ASCODEX PLUS EXPECTORANT 100ML may cause dizziness, so drive only if you are alert. ASCODEX PLUS EXPECTORANT 100ML should be given to children only if prescribed by the doctor. Avoid consuming alcohol with ASCODEX PLUS EXPECTORANT 100ML as it could lead to increased dizziness. Inform your doctor about all the prescription, non-prescription and herbal medicines you are taking to rule out any side-effects/interactions.

Disease/Condition Glossary
Cough: Coughing is the body's way of clearing irritants (like allergens, mucus or smoke) from airways and preventing infection. Cough can be dry or productive. A dry cough does not produce sputum, whereas a productive cough (wet cough) develops sputum (phlegm or mucus) from the lungs. Cough is commonly caused as a response to allergy or viral infection but coughing up mucus is possibly an indication of infection in the respiratory tract.
