Bistas Tablet 8's belongs to the class of antiulcer drugs, primarily used to treat peptic ulcer, gastro-oesophageal reflux disease (GERD), and Helicobacter pylori infection. Gastroesophageal reflux disease occurs when stomach acid frequently flows back into the food pipe (oesophagus). Peptic ulcers are sores that develop on the inner lining of the intestine and stomach. Bistas Tablet 8's is usually given in combination with antibiotics and proton pump inhibitors.
Bistas Tablet 8's contains Tripotassium dicitrato bismuthate. It acts as an ulcer protectant and heals ulcers. It also has a little acid-neutralizing effect and acts as a diffusion barrier to the acid present in the stomach. Bistas Tablet 8's is also bactericidal (kills bacteria) against Helicobacter pylori (that causes gastritis and peptic ulcers). It is known to increase mucosal secretion of prostaglandins, which inhibit acid secretion in the stomach.
Take Bistas Tablet 8's as advised by the doctor. Your doctor will advise the appropriate dose that suits your medical condition. Common side effects of Bistas Tablet 8's include headache, diarrhoea, black faeces, mild dizziness, and belching.
