About Clofranil SR Tablet

Clofranil SR Tablet belongs to a class of drugs called 'antidepressant' used to treat obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), depression, panic and anxiety disorder. OCD is a mental disorder with symptoms such as excessive thoughts or ideas (obsessions), leading to repetitive behaviours (compulsions). Depression is a mood disorder associated with symptoms such as sadness, unable to sleep properly or enjoy life as you used to do. Panic or anxiety disorder is linked to anxiety with sudden feelings of unnecessary fear or worries even when there is no danger in reality.

Clofranil SR Tablet contains Clomipramine which works by increasing the activity of serotonin and noradrenaline (chemical messengers) in the brain involved in regulating mood, behaviour and emotions. Thereby, Clofranil SR Tablet helps relieve depression, lighten the mood and relieve anxiety symptoms such as fear and panic.

Take Clofranil SR Tablet with food as prescribed by your doctor and swallow whole with a glass of water. Do not break, crush or chew it. Your doctor will advise you how often you take Clofranil SR Tablet based on your medical condition. Some people may experience dizziness, headache, drowsiness, dry mouth, nausea, weight gain, increased sweating, constipation, shaking, blurred vision, erectile dysfunction or difficulty in urination. Most of these side effects of Clofranil SR Tablet do not require medical attention and gradually resolve over time. However, if the side effects persist or worsen, please consult your doctor.

If you are allergic to Clofranil SR Tablet or any other medicines, please tell your doctor. Clofranil SR Tablet is not recommended for children below 17 years of age. Avoid taking Clofranil SR Tablet if you are pregnant as it may cause harm to the foetus. Avoid breastfeeding while taking Clofranil SR Tablet as it may be excreted in human milk and cause adverse effects in the baby. If you have any self-harming or suicidal thoughts before taking Clofranil SR Tablet , inform your doctor as they may worsen in the initial days of taking Clofranil SR Tablet .

Side effects of Clofranil SR Tablet
Here are the step-by-step strategies to manage the side effects of "indigestion" caused by medication usage:
  • Take medications with food (if recommended): It can help prevent stomach distress and indigestion.
  • Eat smaller, more frequent meals: Divide daily food intake into smaller, more frequent meals to ease digestion.
  • Avoid trigger foods: Identify and avoid foods that trigger indigestion, such as spicy, fatty, or acidic foods.
  • Stay upright after eating: Sit or stand upright for at least 1-2 hours after eating to prevent stomach acid from flowing into the oesophagus.
  • Avoid carbonated drinks: Avoid drinking carbonated beverages, such as soda or beer, which can worsen indigestion.
  • Manage stress: To alleviate indigestion, engage in stress-reducing activities like deep breathing exercises or meditation.
  • Consult a doctor if needed: If indigestion worsens or persists, consult a healthcare professional to adjust the medication regimen or explore alternative treatments.
  • Drink water or other clear fluids.
  • To prevent worsening of pain, limit intake of tea, coffee, or alcohol.
  • Include bland foods like rice, toast, crackers, and rice in your diet.
  • Avoid lying down immediately after eating as it may cause indigestion or heartburn.
  • Avoid acidic and spicy food as it may cause indigestion.
Here are the precise steps to cope with diarrhoea caused by medication usage:
  • Inform Your Doctor: Notify your doctor immediately about your diarrhoea symptoms. This allows them to adjust your medication or provide guidance on managing side effects.
  • Stay Hydrated: Drink plenty of fluids to replace lost water and electrolytes. Choose water, clear broth, and electrolyte-rich drinks. Avoid carbonated or caffeinated beverages to effectively rehydrate your body.
  • Follow a Bland Diet: Eat easy-to-digest foods to help firm up your stool and settle your stomach. Try incorporating bananas, rice, applesauce, toast, plain crackers, and boiled vegetables into your diet.
  • Avoid Trigger Foods: Steer clear of foods that can worsen diarrhoea, such as spicy, fatty, or greasy foods, high-fibre foods, and dairy products (especially if you're lactose intolerant).
  • Practice Good Hygiene: Maintain good hygiene to prevent the spread of infection. To stay healthy, wash your hands frequently, clean and disinfect surfaces regularly, and avoid exchanging personal belongings with others.
  • Take Anti-Diarrheal Medications: If your doctor advises, anti-diarrheal medications such as loperamide might help manage diarrhoea symptoms. Always follow your doctor's directions.
  • Keep track of your diarrhoea symptoms. If they don't get better or worse or are accompanied by severe stomach pain, blood, or dehydration signs (like extreme thirst or dark urine), seek medical help.
Here are the steps to manage Gastrointestinal Air and Swelling (GAS) caused by medication:
  • Tell your doctor about your GAS symptoms. They may change your medication regimen or prescribe additional drugs to help you manage them.
  • To manage GAS symptoms, eat a balanced diet of fibre, vegetables, and fruits.
  • Drink enough water throughout the day to avoid constipation and treat GAS symptoms.
  • Regular exercise like yoga and walking may help stimulate digestion and alleviate GAS symptoms.
  • Take probiotics only if your doctor advises, as they may help alleviate GAS symptoms by promoting gut health.
  • Take medication for GAS symptoms only if your doctor advises, as certain medications can interact with your existing prescriptions or worsen symptoms.
  • If symptoms persist, worsen, or are accompanied by severe abdominal pain, vomiting, or bleeding, seek immediate medical attention.
  • Try eating smaller meals (4-5 times) instead of large ones to make it easier on your stomach.
  • Avoid foods that are spicy, fatty, or high in insoluble fibre.
  • Consuming soluble fibre (such as psyllium) can help with constipation, and probiotics may reduce bloating and discomfort.
  • Stay away from carbonated drinks, alcohol, caffeine, and smoking, as they can upset your stomach.
  • Reducing stress, losing weight, and exercising regularly for 20-30 minutes can help improve digestion and reduce stomach issues.
  • Poor sleep can worsen stomach problems, so focus on good sleep habits or use tools like Sleepio to improve your sleep.
  • Please consult your doctor if you notice any tooth problems during and after the treatment.
  • Visit your dentist regularly to detect tooth problems early and avoid further damage.
  • If your teeth are badly damaged, they may need to be removed, and you might need a bridge or implant.
  • Brush your teeth twice a day with fluoride toothpaste, preferably after meals and before bed.
  • Eat a healthy diet and try to limit snacks.
  • Avoid sugary or starchy foods like candy, chips, and pretzels that can stick to your teeth.
  • Ask your dentist if you should use supplemental fluoride to strengthen your teeth.
  • Drink at least a pint of fluoridated water daily to help prevent decay.
To prevent, manage, and treat Constipation caused by medication usage, follow these steps:
  • Preventing Vomiting (Before it Happens)
  • Take medication exactly as prescribed by your doctor. This can help minimize side effects, including vomiting.
  • Having a small meal before taking your medication can help reduce nausea and vomiting.
  • Talk to your doctor about taking anti-nausea medication along with your prescribed medication.
  • Managing Vomiting (If it Happens)
  • Try taking ginger in the form of tea, ale, or candy to help alleviate nausea and vomiting.
  • What to Do if Vomiting Persists
