About Cyprowal Syrup 100 ml

Cyprowal Syrup 100 ml belongs to a group of combination medicines called 'appetite enhancers' used to stimulate the appetite and treat alimentary tract and metabolism problems. Cyprowal Syrup 100 ml helps treat lack of appetite, weight loss, and anorexia nervosa (an eating disorder with low body weight). Besides this, it is also prescribed for underweight children with inadequate dietary intake, loss of appetite, anaemia, liver/digestive disorder, antiretroviral (anti-HIV drugs) treatment for weight gain, and adjunct to anti-tubercular (anti-TB drugs).

Cyprowal Syrup 100 ml combines three drugs: Lysine, Cyproheptadine and Peptone. Lysine is a building block of essential proteins which improve appetite and digestion. Cyproheptadine works by reducing the effect of a chemical messenger in the hypothalamus called serotonin, thereby stimulating the appetite. Peptone increases the production of a protein (cholecystokinin) which controls appetite and food intake.

Depending on your medical condition, you are advised to take Cyprowal Syrup 100 ml for as long as your doctor prescribes it. Cyprowal Syrup 100 ml is generally safe to use. However, some may experience side effects like dry mouth, drowsiness, confusion, and ataxia (impaired balance or coordination). Most of these side effects do not require medical attention and resolve gradually over time. However, you are advised to talk to your doctor if you experience these side effects persistently.

Let your doctor know if you are using any prescription, non-prescription medicines, herbal or vitamin supplements before you take Cyprowal Syrup 100 ml. Consult your doctor before taking Cyprowal Syrup 100 ml if you are pregnant. It is not recommended to take Cyprowal Syrup 100 ml if you are breastfeeding. Cyprowal Syrup 100 ml may cause drowsiness, so drive with caution. Avoid consumption of alcohol while taking Cyprowal Syrup 100 ml as it may cause increased drowsiness. Inform your doctor before taking Cyprowal Syrup 100 ml if you have asthma, hyperthyroidism, high blood pressure, intraocular (eye) pressure, or heart problems. Keep your doctor informed about all the medicines and your health condition to rule out any side effects.

Disease/Condition Glossary

Appetite loss: Appetite loss is a condition in which an individual has no desire to eat food. Lack of appetite causes missing meals or less urge of hungriness, resulting in a deficiency of essential and non-essential nutrients required for the proper metabolism and growth of our body. The most common reasons for the decrease in appetite include psychological conditions like stress, anxiety, depression, gastrointestinal conditions (such as acidity, peptic ulcers, and ulcerative colitis), slow metabolism, age, lowered activity levels, other disease conditions (like AIDS, HIV, cancer) and some medication side effects. Some drugs, like digoxin, fluoxetine, quinidine, and hydralazine, can cause appetite loss (anorexia).
