About Dologel
Dologel belongs to a class of drugs called analgesics and antiseptics used in the treatment of mouth ulcers and oropharynx (middle part of the throat) inflammation. Mouth ulcers, also known as canker sores are small, painful lesions that develop in the mouth or at the base of the gums. These can make you uncomfortable while eating, drinking, and talking. They usually heal within a few weeks and are not contagious.
Dologel is a combination of three drugs, namely: Benzalkonium chloride (antibacterial agent), Choline salicylate (non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug), and Lignocaine hydrochloride (local anesthetic). Benzalkonium chloride acts as an antibacterial agent and prevents secondary infections. Thus, it promotes the quick healing of mouth ulcers. Choline salicylate works by blocking the action of the cyclo-oxygenase (COX) enzyme in the body that is involved in the production of certain chemical substances such as prostaglandins that cause pain and swelling. Thereby, it helps in relieving pain and swelling. Lignocaine hydrochloride decreases pain sensation by preventing the transmission of pain signals from nerves to the brain.
Dologel is for topical oral use only. You are advised to use Dologel for as long as your doctor has recommended it for you based on your condition. In some cases, you may experience itching or irritation at the site of the application. These side effects of Dologel do not require medical attention and gradually resolve over time. However, if the side effects persist or worsen, please consult your doctor.
If you are allergic to Dologel or any other medicines, please tell your doctor. Avoid contact of Dologel with nose, ears, mouth, or eyes. In case Dologel comes in contact with these areas accidentally, rinse with water thoroughly. If you are pregnant or a nursing mother, please inform your doctor before using Dologel. Avoid using Dologel in large amounts or for a long time than advised as it does not give quick or better results but increases the risk of side effects.
