Duovir-N Tablet 30's is a combination of three drugs: lamivudine, zidovudine, and nevirapine. Duovir-N Tablet 30's works by preventing HIV (virus) from multiplying, thereby reducing the amount of virus in your body and also increasing the CD4 cell (white blood cells that protect against infection) count in your blood. Duovir-N Tablet 30's is generally prescribed for the treatment of HIV infection.
lamivudine and zidovudine is nucleosidase reverse transcriptase inhibitor, both medicines together decrease the amount of virus in your body by inhibiting HIV reverse transcription via viral DNA chain termination, whereas Niverapine is a non-nucleosidase reverse transcriptase inhibitor, works by lowering the amount of HIV in the blood. Duovir-N Tablet 30's will not cure HIV infection or AIDS, however, it helps keep HIV from reproducing and appears to slow down the destruction of the immune system.
Take Duovir-N Tablet 30's by mouth with a glass full of water. Take it on an empty stomach, preferably at bedtime, to reduce side effects. Skipping doses increases the risk of treatment failure. Make sure that you take all your doses at the correct time. Common side effects of Duovir-N Tablet 30's are Nausea, Vomiting, Diarrhea, Headache, Tiredness, Insomnia (difficulty in sleeping), Rash, Muscle damage, Anemia (low number of red blood cells), and Decreased white blood cell count (neutrophils).
Duovir-N Tablet 30's should not be prescribed for people who are allergic to any one of the components in the name. $ name carries a boxed warning for the risk of life-threatening (including fatal) hepatotoxicity, skin reactions, hematologic toxicity, myopathy, lactic acidosis and severe hepatomegaly with steatosis, and exacerbations of hepatitis B. Drug-Drug Interaction: Care should be exercised when Duovir-N Tablet 30's is administered in combination with antibiotics(clarithromycin, chloramphenicol, Doxorubicin), anti-viral (acyclovir, atazanavir, efavirenz),anti-fungal(fluconazole, ketoconazole).
Drug-Food Interaction: avoid taking alcohol and st .johnwarts with Duovir-N Tablet 30's.
Drug-Disease Interaction: People affected with liver disease, kidney disease, blood disorders, and Bone disorders should not take Duovir-N Tablet 30's.
