Entofoam 10% Foam 20.8 gm belongs to a class of drugs called 'corticosteroids' used as an adjunctive therapy in the treatment of ulcerative proctitis. Ulcerative proctitis is a type of ulcerative colitis and is a condition that causes inflammation of the lining tissue of the inner rectum.

Entofoam 10% Foam 20.8 gm contains Hydrocortisone, a steroid that works by inhibiting the production of certain chemical messengers in the body that cause redness and swelling. 

Use Entofoam 10% Foam 20.8 gm as prescribed. You are advised to use Entofoam 10% Foam 20.8 gm for as long as your doctor has recommended it for you based on your medical condition. Sometimes, Entofoam 10% Foam 20.8 gm may cause side effects such as irregular periods, unexpected flattening of the neck, face and body, dusky complexion with purple patches, hair starts to grow on the body (women) or itching. If you experience any of these side effects, consult your doctor.

Entofoam 10% Foam 20.8 gm should be used with caution in the elderly as they are more susceptible to adverse reactions. If you are pregnant or planning pregnancy, please inform your doctor before using Entofoam 10% Foam 20.8 gm. Hydrocortisone may be excreted in breast milk. Therefore, if you are a nursing mother, inform your doctor before using Entofoam 10% Foam 20.8 gm. Your doctor decides whether to discontinue breastfeeding or Entofoam 10% Foam 20.8 gm based on the importance of Entofoam 10% Foam 20.8 gm to the mother.

Drug-Drug Interactions: If you are taking adrenal corticosteroid inhibitor (aminoglutethimide), antifungals (amphotericin B, ketoconazole), macrolide antibiotics, blood thinner (warfarin), anticholinesterases, antidiabetic agents, antituberculosis drug (isoniazid, rifampin), a medicine used to lower high blood cholesterol levels (cholestyramine), immunosuppressant (cyclosporine), digitalis glycosides, non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (aspirin), estrogens including oral contraceptives, barbiturates, or anticonvulsants (phenytoin, carbamazepine), inform your doctor before using Entofoam 10% Foam 20.8 gm.

Drug-Disease Interactions: Avoid using Entofoam 10% Foam 20.8 gm if you have an abscess (collection of pus), bowel obstruction, perforation, extensive fistulae, recent intestinal anastomosis (a surgical procedure), tuberculosis, peritonitis (inflammation of the tissue that lines the abdomen), fungal or viral infection. If you have ever had severe depression or bipolar disorder or diseases of the bowel (rectum), inform your doctor before using Entofoam 10% Foam 20.8 gm.

• Maintain a soft, bland diet to help reduce proctitis pain. Avoid acidic, spicy, or fatty foods during bouts of diarrhoea.
• Drink plenty of fluids as it eases stool passage and also helps prevent dehydration due to frequent, loose stools. 
• Avoid caffeinated sodas, teas and coffees, as caffeine can irritate your digestive system. Also, sugar alcohols found in drinks and sugar-free candies can aggravate diarrhoea.
• You may be intolerant to lactose. Try to cut down on dairy products and switch to alternative forms of milk.

Ulcerative proctitis: It is a type of ulcerative colitis and is a condition that causes inflammation of the lining tissue of the inner rectum. It can be uncomfortable and painful, making you feel a constant urge to defecate. The symptoms include tenesmus (frequent urge to poop), very loose stools, bleeding from your rectum, watery diarrhoea, pain in the rectum, anus or abdominal region and passing of discharge or mucus from the rectum. The factors involved in causing ulcerative proctitis include sexually transmitted infections, anal trauma (such as from vigorous anal sex), inflammatory bowel diseases such as ulcerative colitis or Crohn’s disease, rectal infections after antibiotic use, infections that aren’t transmitted sexually (such as infections from bacteria like shigella and salmonella) and radiation treatments for anal, ovarian, rectal or prostate cancer.
