About Fertyl Super Tablet

Fertyl Super Tablet belongs to the group of medications called ‘ovulation stimulants’ used to treat infertility in women who are not ovulating (producing an egg) properly or have irregular or no menstrual cycle. The problem with ovulation is a common cause of infertility in women.

Fertyl Super Tablet contains ‘clomiphene’ which belongs to the class of ‘ovulation stimulants’. It is used to induce ovulation (egg production) in a woman who has problems with ovulation and wishes to get pregnant. This medicine works by stimulating the production of hormones that are responsible for the ovulation process.  

You should take this medicine as prescribed by your doctor. The common side-effects of Fertyl Super Tablet are flushing (reddening of the skin, especially face), vasomotor symptoms (night sweats and hot flushes), abdominal bloating or discomfort, nausea (feeling sick), vomiting (being sick), headache, vision problems and breast pain. Tell your doctor if any of these side-effects persist or get worsen.

Do not take Fertyl Super Tablet if you are allergic to clomiphene or any other ingredients present in it, develop any allergic symptoms such as a rash, swallowing or breathing problems, swelling of your lips, face, throat, or tongue, previously diagnosed with liver disease, unexplained and unusual menstrual bleeding, have a type of cancer that gets worse by hormones, or have an ovarian cyst.  It is not recommended to use in pregnant women. So, it is advised to take a pregnancy test before using this medicine. It is also not recommended for use in children, adolescents, men and post-menopausal women. Inform your doctor if you are breastfeeding as this medicine may affect the amount of breast milk produced. Inform your doctor if you are taking any other prescription, non-prescription medicines or herbal products before taking this medicine.

  • Get plenty of fresh air.
  • Take regular sips of a cold drink.
  • Take ginger containing foods like ginger tea and ginger biscuits.
  • Do not take heavy meals at a time, take small and frequent meals.

Before taking Fertyl Super Tablet, inform your doctor if you are having an early menopause, diagnosed as infertile, stopped menstrual periods due to underweight, previously diagnosed with fits or seizures (fits), uterine fibroids (non-cancerous tumors in the womb), polycystic ovaries (presence of small cysts on the enlarged ovaries), swollen ovaries, or hypertriglyceridemia (increased fat levels in the body) or a family history of hypertriglyceridemia. Your doctor may also check for other causes of infertility before prescribing this medicine. Fertyl Super Tablet contains lactose and sucrose, so inform your doctor if you have any intolerance to sugars.

How to manage the interaction:
Although there is an interaction, Fertyl Super Tablet can be taken with Bexarotene if prescribed by the doctor. Consult the prescriber if you experience symptoms of pancreatitis such as persistent nausea, vomiting, abdominal tenderness, and upper abdominal pain, especially that which is made worse after eating or radiates to the back. Do not discontinue the medication without consulting a doctor.

Abnormal uterine bleeding: In patients who are not diagnosed with abnormal genital bleeding, Fertyl Super Tablet is contraindicated. Evaluate the patients for the presence of neoplastic lesions.

Hepatic dysfunction: Fertyl Super Tablet is contraindicated for patients who have liver failure or a past history of hepatic dysfunction. The Fertyl Super Tablet is primarily metabolized in the liver and enters into enterohepatic circulation. Thus, there will be increase in serum concentration and half-life of Fertyl Super Tablet.

How does the disease interact with Fertyl Super Tablet:
Pituitary activity: Fertyl Super Tablet is contraindicated for patients who have uncontrolled thyroid or adrenal dysfunction, or who have an organic intracranial lesion such as a pituitary tumour. Fertyl Super Tablet interacts with oestrogen receptors in several tissues, including the pituitary, causing a rise in pituitary gonadotropin secretion.

Uncontrolled adrenal dysfunction : Fertyl Super Tablet is contraindicated in patients with uncontrolled adrenal function. Adrenal dysfunction can make pregnancy difficult. Fertyl Super Tablet therapy may cause changes in steroid production and/or fluid balance.

How does the disease interact with Fertyl Super Tablet:
Hyperlipidemia: Some patients who are on Fertyl Super Tablet therapy have reported hypertriglyceridemia. Preexisting hyperlipidemia or a family history of hyperlipidemia, Higher doses of Fertyl Super Tablet for a long period are related to an increased risk of hypertriglyceridemia. In this conditions, Monitor plasma triglycerides regular basis and also at base line before initiating the therapy with Fertyl Super Tablet.

How to manage the interaction:
Hypertriglyceridemia may occur during Fertyl Super Tablet therapy, especially in patients with a family history of hyperlipidemia and use of higher than the recommended dose and/or longer duration of treatment. Periodic monitoring of plasma triglycerides is recommended in patients with preexisting or family history of hyperlipidemia. Pretreatment screening of triglyceride levels is advised in patients initiating Fertyl Super Tablet therapy.
