Folitrax LP 1% Gel belongs to the class of medicines called 'anti-metabolites and immunosuppressants' used to treat severe psoriasis. Psoriasis is a skin disorder in which skin cells multiply faster than usual. This causes scaling, redness, and thickness of the skin. Psoriatic patches generally occur on the knees, elbows, scalp, and lower back.
Folitrax LP 1% Gel contains 'Methotrexate', which works by suppressing the overactive immune system that is responsible for causing psoriasis.
In some cases, Folitrax LP 1% Gel may cause common side-effects such as nausea, vomiting, fatigue, mouth sores, and loss of appetite. Most of these side effects do not require medical attention and will resolve gradually over time. However, you are advised to talk to your doctor if you experience these side effects persistently.
Consult your doctor if you have a weak immune system, low blood cell count, liver or kidney problems. Do not use Folitrax LP 1% Gel if you are pregnant or breastfeeding. Do not use Folitrax LP 1% Gel if you are allergic to any of the contents. Avoid using Folitrax LP 1% Gel if you are pregnant or breastfeeding. Inform your doctor if you have immunodeficiency conditions, bone marrow problems, low white blood cell count, low platelet count, serious anaemia, liver or kidney problems, ulceration in the stomach or bowels, poor general condition, received any vaccinations or if are due to have any, diabetes, ascites (fluid in the stomach area), lung problems or fluid in the lungs.
