About Furowin Injection 2 ml

Furowin Injection 2 ml belongs to a group of medicines called loop diuretics used to treat oedema. It may also be used in the treatment of extremely high blood pressure that may lead to life-threatening conditions (hypertensive crisis). Oedema, also known as fluid overload, occurs due to the build-up of fluid in spaces between the tissues leading to swelling. Hypertension or high blood pressure is a chronic condition in which the force exerted by the blood against the artery wall increases.

Furowin Injection 2 ml contains Furosemide, which works by increasing the amount of urine that is passed out from the kidneys. It effectively reduces excess fluid levels in the body and treats oedema (swelling) associated with heart, liver, kidney, or lung disease. This reduces the workload on the heart and makes the heart more efficient at pumping blood throughout the body. Thus, it helps to lower high blood pressure, reducing the chances of heart attack or stroke.

Furowin Injection 2 ml will be administered by a qualified healthcare professional. Kindly do not self-administer. In some cases, you may experience frequent urination (peeing more than normal), feeling thirsty, dry mouth, headache, feeling confused or dizzy, nausea or vomiting. Most of these side effects of Furowin Injection 2 ml do not require medical attention and gradually resolve over time. However, if the side effects are persistent, reach out to your doctor.

Let your doctor know if you are allergic to any of the components in Furowin Injection 2 ml. Inform your doctor if you are suffering from kidney, liver, or heart disease. Consult your doctor if you are pregnant or breastfeeding. Do not drive or operate machinery as Furowin Injection 2 ml may cause dizziness. Furowin Injection 2 ml is recommended for children and adolescents under the age of 15 only in exceptional cases. Avoid alcohol intake while on treatment with Furowin Injection 2 ml as it may cause excessive lowering of blood pressure.

Medicinal Benefits

Furowin Injection 2 ml contains furosemide, a loop diuretic which increases the excretion of salt and water through urine by acting on a targeted or specific part of the kidney called the loop of Henle. Thereby decreasing fluid in the tissues, and aiding in treating swelling (oedema). It also helps reduce the workload on the heart and makes the heart more efficient at pumping blood throughout the body. Thus, treats high blood pressure, reducing the chances of heart attack or stroke.

FAQs

Furowin Injection 2 ml increases urine production to eliminate excess water (fluid retention) in the body. This reduces the fluid in the tissues, which helps in reducing swelling (oedema).

Parenteral therapy should only be used for patients unable to take oral medications or in an emergency clinical situation. Furowin Injection 2 ml is prescribed by the doctor when rapid and effective removal of excess fluid is required, for patients who cannot take it orally, in an emergency or during periods of extremely high blood pressure, which may result in life-threatening conditions.

Furowin Injection 2 ml is contraindicated in people with anuria (reduction or absence of urine) or a history of hypersensitivity to Furosemide.

Furowin Injection 2 ml may cause weight loss as your body loses water. However, do not use Furowin Injection 2 ml to lose weight. If you have any concerns regarding weight, consult your doctor.

Notify your doctor if you are taking lithium because Furowin Injection 2 ml decreases lithium renal clearance and increases the risk of lithium toxicity.

Disease/Condition Glossary

Oedema: Oedema, also known as fluid overload, occurs due to the build-up of fluid in the tissues. Oedema can occur due to medical conditions or lifestyle factors. Shortness of breath, chest pain (angina), abnormal heart rhythms (arrhythmia), and swelling in hands or abdominal areas are the symptoms of oedema.

Hypertension: It is a chronic condition when blood pressure is too high. This condition can lead to hardened arteries (blood vessels), decreasing the blood and oxygen flow to the heart. Blood pressure is the measurement of the force the heart uses to pump blood to all body parts. Raised blood pressure can cause chest pain (angina) and heart attack (when blood supply to the heart is blocked). Additionally, high blood pressure also causes brain damage (stroke) and kidney failure. High blood pressure can be diagnosed with the help of a blood pressure monitor or sphygmomanometer. Systolic pressure is the pressure when the heart pumps blood out. On the other hand, diastolic pressure is the pressure when the heart is at the resting stage between heartbeats. If your blood pressure is 140/90 mm of Hg, it means the systolic pressure is 140 mm of Hg, and diastolic pressure is 90 mm of Hg. Ideal blood pressure is around 120/80 mm of Hg.
