About GENFIXO TABLET

GENFIXO TABLET belongs to a group of medications called 'cephalosporin antibiotics' primarily used for the treatment of a wide range of bacterial infections of the skin, ears, lungs, prostate and urinary tract. Besides this, it also treats typhoid fever and STDs (sexually transmitted diseases) like chlamydia and gonorrhoea. A bacterial infection happens when harmful bacteria enter inside the body and start multiplying. These harmful bacteria are responsible for producing toxins that can cause diseases like strep throat, urinary tract infection (UTI), bacterial food poisoning, gonorrhoea, bacterial meningitis, cellulitis, Lyme disease, and tetanus. GENFIXO TABLET does not work against viral infections like flu and colds.

GENFIXO TABLET contains 'Cefixime' (cephalosporin antibiotic) and 'Ofloxacin' (fluoroquinolone antibiotic) that works by preventing the formation of the outer covering of the bacteria (cell wall) required for their survival. GENFIXO TABLET prevents the release of a chemical messenger (mucopeptides) by the bacteria, thereby weakening and destroying the bacterial cell wall. GENFIXO TABLET is a broad range antibiotic that works against a wide range of both gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria.

Take GENFIXO TABLET as prescribed. Your doctor will recommend how often you take GENFIXO TABLET based on your medical condition. GENFIXO TABLET may cause some common side effects that include diarrhoea, indigestion, nausea, loose stools, abdominal pain, and vomiting. However, some of these side effects do not require medical attention and will pass within a couple of days. If side effects become get worse with time or do not pass within a couple of days, then one should consult their doctor.

GENFIXO TABLET is not allowed to use in patients who are already taking any of the other antibiotics or having kidney or liver problems. This medicine can only be used in pregnant or breastfeeding women if strongly suggested by the doctor. Ofloxacin present in GENFIXO TABLET may cause and aggravate symptoms of existing peripheral neuropathy (nerve damage in legs), tendinitis (swelling or tearing of a tendon), myasthenia gravis (skeletal muscle weakness), and respiratory issues like bronchitis, sinusitis. People with diabetes should contact a doctor before taking GENFIXO TABLET as GENFIXO TABLET can lower your blood sugar level in some cases. Patient with central nervous system disorder or epilepsy (fits) should avoid intake of GENFIXO TABLET as its use is contraindicated for them.

Medicinal Benefits

GENFIXO TABLET is a combination of cephalosporin and fluoroquinolone antibiotics that works by killing the bacteria (bactericidal). Cefixime works by stopping the growth of bacteria by inhibiting the formation of a protective layer required by the bacteria or its growth. At the same time, Ofloxacin acts by blocking the action of a chemical messenger, which helps the genetic material of bacteria to survive. The doctor usually prescribes GENFIXO TABLET for the treatment of typhoid fever and urinary tract infections. Besides this, it also treats bacterial infections of the prostate, skin, lungs, sexually transmitted infections like gonorrhoea (cervical/urethral), ear infections (acute otitis media), upper respiratory tract infections (URTI), lower respiratory tract infection, tonsillitis (inflammation of the tonsils) and pharyngitis (inflammation of the pharynx).

Diet & Lifestyle Advise

  • Include probiotics in your diet as probiotics contain healthy bacteria that are good for the intestines and can recover the killed bacteria.
  • Taking probiotics after completing the antibiotics course can minimize the chances of antibiotic-associated diarrhoea. Foods that are high in probiotics include yoghurt, cheese, sauerkraut, and kimchi so consume them to restore the good bacteria of the intestine.
  • Try to take more fibre-enriched food as it will help the food to digest properly and helps to stimulate the growth of gut bacteria.
  • Include whole grains like whole-grain bread, brown rice to include fibre in your diet.
  • Try to consume less calcium, iron-enriched foods, and drinks as it may slow down the working of GENFIXO TABLET.
  • Try to limit the consumption of alcoholic beverages as it can cause worsening of side effects and make your body dehydrated and affect your sleep. This also makes it difficult for your body to aid the GENFIXO TABLET in fighting off infections.

How does the disease interact with Genfixo Tablet:
Almost all antibacterial medications have been associated to reports of Clostridioides difficile-associated diarrhoea (CDAD), formerly known as pseudomembranous colitis. It can vary from mild diarrhoea to deadly colitis. Clindamycin and lincomycin are two of the most frequent offenders.

How to manage the interaction:
Antibiotics may cause Clostridioides difficile-associated diarrhoea (CDAD), which may range from mild diarrhoea to fatal colitis. Appropriate fluid and electrolyte management, protein supplementation, antibacterial treatment of C difficile, and surgical evaluation is advised.
CEFIXIME-200MG+OFLOXACIN-200MGDisorders resulting from impaired renal tubular function

How does the disease interact with Genfixo Tablet:
The kidneys remove the majority of beta-lactam antibiotics as unaltered drugs and, in certain situations, as metabolites as well. In individuals with poor renal function, the blood concentrations of beta-lactam antibiotics and their metabolites may rise and their half-lives may be prolonged. According to the particular product package labelling, dosage modifications may be required. These alterations should be based on the severity of the infection as well as the degree of renal impairment. Renal function tests should be carried out on a regular basis during extended and/or high-dose therapy since these medicines have occasionally been linked to nephrotoxicity and changes in renal function.

How to manage the interaction:
The serum concentration may be increased in patients with impaired kidney function as most beta-lactam antibiotics are eliminated by the kidney. Dose adjustment may be necessary for patients with kidney dysfunction. Regular renal function tests are advised.

How does the disease interact with Genfixo Tablet:
Hepatitis cases have been associated to the usage of several cephalosporins. Alkaline phosphatase, AST, and ALT levels have all shown a brief spike. When these medications are provided to people with hepatic problems, caution and close observation are advised.

How to manage the interaction:
Caution and monitoring is recommended in patients with liver disorders.

How does the disease interact with Genfixo Tablet:
It has been suggested that cephalosporins can cause seizures. In particular in patients with a history of epilepsy and/or where prescribed doses of cephalosporins were exceeded because of renal impairment, cephalosporins have been associated with nonconvulsive status epilepticus (NCSE), encephalopathy, coma, asterixis, neuromuscular excitability, and myoclonia. Depending on the creatinine clearance, change the dosage. In individuals with known seizure disorders, anticonvulsant medication should be maintained. Patients should get a neurological exam to see if medication should be stopped if CNS side effects like seizures happen.

How to manage the interaction:
Cephalosporin antibiotics may trigger seizures. Dose adjustment may be needed.

Disease/Condition Glossary

Bacterial infection: The bacterial infection occurs when harmful bacteria enter, and get multiplied, and cause sickness inside the body. Common symptoms of bacterial infection may vary depending upon the type of infection and bacteria, causing it. Some other symptoms of a bacterial infection include fever, feeling tired, swollen lymph nodes, headache, nausea, or vomiting. Bacteria are single-celled small microorganisms found in different shapes and structures like spherical, rod, and spiral-shaped.  Some harmful bacteria that can affect a human's body include Streptococcus, Staphylococcus, and E. coli. Bacterial infection can infect anyone persons with a weak immune system or already taking immunosuppressive drugs are at higher risk of bacterial infection.
