About Geolid-IV Infusion

Geolid-IV Infusion belongs to the class of medicines called oxazolidinones used to treat bacterial infections of the lungs (pneumonia), and skin. It is also used to treat infections which are resistant to other antibiotics. Bacterial infections are caused due to the multiplication of harmful bacteria inside or on the body. Geolid-IV Infusion does not work against infections caused by the virus, including cold and flu.

Geolid-IV Infusion contains Linezolid. It treats infection by stopping the growth of infection-causing bacteria. 

Geolid-IV Infusion shows some common side-effects like thrush (fungal infection), headache, metallic taste, diarrhoea, nausea, vomiting, dizziness, constipation, indigestion and localized pain. Most of these side effects do not require medical attention and will resolve gradually over time. However, you are advised to consult your doctor if you experience these side effects persistently.

Inform your doctor before receiving this injection if you are pregnant or planning pregnancy. Geolid-IV Infusion passes into breastmilk and can cause diarrhoea and vomiting in infants; therefore, discontinue breastfeeding prior to and throughout the treatment. Avoid alcohol consumption while taking Geolid-IV Infusion as it may cause increased dizziness. Geolid-IV Infusion may cause dizziness and vision problems, so drive and operate machinery only if you are alert. Keep your doctor informed about your health condition and your ongoing medications to rule out any interactions.

Drug Warnings

Let your doctor know before receiving Geolid-IV Infusion if you are allergic to any of its contents; Geolid-IV Infusion should not be taken if you are taking or have taken monoamine oxidase (MAO) inhibitors in the last 14 days. Inform your doctor if you have high blood pressure, overactive thyroid, phaeochromocytoma (tumour of adrenal glands), carcinoid syndrome (tumours of the hormone system), manic depression, schizophrenia, confusion or other mental problems. Inform your doctor if you have bruises or bleeding disorders, have anaemia (low red blood cells), are prone to infections, have a history of seizures, if you are on dialysis, have diarrhoea, kidney or liver problems. Consult your doctor immediately if you experience a throbbing headache, vision problems, loss of sensitivity or tingling/prickling sensation in arms and legs, persistent diarrhoea, nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain or rapid breathing.

How does the drug interact with Geolid-IV Infusion:
When Clomipramine is taken with Geolid-IV Infusion, may increase the risk of serotonin syndrome (a condition in which a chemical called serotonin increases in your body).

How to manage the interaction:
There may be a possibility of interaction between Clomipramine and Geolid-IV Infusion, but it can be taken if prescribed by a doctor. If you notice any of these signs - like confusion, hallucination, seizure, increased heart rate, fever, excessive sweating, shivering or shaking, blurred vision, muscle spasm or stiffness, tremor, incoordination, stomach cramp, nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea-contact a doctor immediately. Do not stop using any medications without a doctor's advice.
How does the drug interact with Geolid-IV Infusion:
Coadministration of Geolid-IV Infusion with Imipramine might raise serotonin hormone levels in the body, affecting the brain and nerve cells.

How to manage the interaction:
Taking Geolid-IV Infusion and Imipramine together is not recommended as it can result in an interaction, but it can be taken if a doctor has advised it. However, if you experience confusion, hallucinations, seizures, extreme changes in blood pressure, increased heart rate, fever, excessive sweating, shivering or shaking, blurred vision, muscle spasm or stiffness, tremors, incoordination, stomach cramps, nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea, contact a doctor immediately. Do not discontinue any medications without consulting a doctor.

Using Geolid-IV Infusion with Trazodone can increase the risk of serotonin syndrome(a condition in which a chemical called serotonin increase in your body).

How to manage the interaction:
Taking Trazodone with Geolid-IV Infusion is not recommended but can be taken if prescribed by a doctor. However, consult a doctor if you have symptoms such as confusion, hallucination, fits, blood pressure alteration, increased heart rate, fever, excessive sweating, shivering or shaking, blurred vision, pain in the muscles or stiffness, incoordination, stomach cramps, nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea. Do not discontinue any medications without consulting a doctor.
How does the drug interact with Geolid-IV Infusion:
Taking Geolid-IV Infusion with Methylphenidate together may increase the risk or severity of high blood pressure.

How to manage the interaction:
Taking Geolid-IV Infusion with Methylphenidate is generally avoided as it can result in an interaction, it can be taken if a doctor has advised it. However, if you experience sudden and severe headaches, blurred vision, confusion, seizures, chest pain, nausea or vomiting, sudden numbness or weakness (especially on one side of the body), speech difficulties, fever, sweating, lightheadedness, and/or fainting, contact a doctor immediately. You may use methylphenidate only after you have been off Geolid-IV Infusion for at least 14 days. Do not discontinue any medications without consulting a doctor.
How does the drug interact with Geolid-IV Infusion:
Taking Duloxetine with Geolid-IV Infusion can increase the risk of serotonin syndrome(a condition in which a chemical called serotonin increase in your body).

How to manage the interaction:
Although taking Duloxetine with Geolid-IV Infusion is not recommended, they can be taken together if prescribed by a doctor. However, consult a doctor if you experience confusion, fever, excessive sweating, shivering, blurred vision, pain in the muscles, stomach cramps, nausea, vomiting, and diarrhoea. Do not discontinue any medications without consulting a doctor.
How does the drug interact with Geolid-IV Infusion:
Combining Geolid-IV Infusion with Buspirone can increase the risk of high blood pressure.

How to manage the interaction:
Taking Buspirone with Geolid-IV Infusion is not recommended, as it results in an interaction, it can be taken if advised by a doctor. Do not stop using any medications without a doctor’s advice
How does the drug interact with Geolid-IV Infusion:
Using Geolid-IV Infusion together with cyproheptadine may increase side effects of Cyproheptadine.

Contact a doctor if you experience dizziness, drowsiness, blurred vision, dry mouth, constipation, heat intolerance, flushing, decreased sweating, difficulty urinating, palpitation, rapid heartbeat, confusion, disorientation, and memory problems. Using phenylephrine together with Geolid-IV Infusion can increase your blood pressure.

How to manage the interaction:
Taking Pheniramine with Geolid-IV Infusion is not recommended but can be taken if prescribed by a doctor. However, if you experience severe abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, numbness or tingling, muscle pain or weakness, pale or cold skin, chest pain or tightness, severe or throbbing headache, irregular heartbeat, shortness of breath, blurred vision, confusion contact a doctor immediately.   • Antibiotics can kill the useful bacteria in the stomach, which help in digestion. Therefore, you are advised to take foods rich in probiotics such as yoghurt/curd, kefir, sauerkraut, tempeh, kimchi, miso, kombucha, buttermilk, natto and cheese.
  • Eat fibre-rich food like whole grains, beans, lentils, berries, broccoli, peas and bananas.
  • Avoid foods rich in calcium, grapefruit and grapefruit juice as they might hinder the absorption of antibiotics.

Geolid-IV Infusion works by stopping the growth of infection-causing bacteria. Thus, it treats the infection.

Diarrhoea might be a side-effect of Geolid-IV Infusion. Drink lots of fluids and eat non-spicy food if you experience diarrhoea. If you find blood in stools (tarry stools) or if you have prolonged diarrhoea with abdominal pain while on treatment with Geolid-IV Infusion, inform your doctor. Do not take anti-diarrheal medicine on your own.

Geolid-IV Infusion may cause oral or vaginal thrush or candidiasis, which is a fungal infection occurring due to the overgrowth of yeast-like fungus in the mouth/throat or vagina. Consult your doctor if the condition persists or worsens.

Geolid-IV Infusion may affect certain laboratory test results such as blood tests, blood sugar tests, and liver and kidney function tests. Inform the lab technician that you are on treatment with Geolid-IV Infusion.

Geolid-IV Infusion may cause anaemia due to a decrease in the number of red blood cells. This could also cause unexplained bleeding or bruising. Consult your doctor if you experience unexplained bleeding or bruising.
