About Glixis-M4 Forte Tablet

Glixis-M4 Forte Tablet belongs to a class of medicines called anti-diabetic drugs used in the treatment of type 2 diabetes, especially in patients whose blood sugar levels are not controlled by diet and exercise alone. Type 2 diabetes is a chronic (long-lasting) condition that affects the way our body processes glucose. People with type 2 diabetes either do not produce enough insulin, or the insulin produced is unable to perform its function in the body (insulin resistance).

Glixis-M4 Forte Tablet is a combination of two antidiabetic drugs, namely: Glimepiride and Metformin. Glimepiride works by stimulating beta cells in the pancreas that produce insulin. Thus, insulin helps to remove sugar from the blood. Metformin PR is a prolonged-release formulation that releases the drug in smaller portions over a longer duration of time. Metformin works by reducing the sugar production by cells in the liver and delays sugar absorption from the intestines. Also, it increases the sensitivity of muscle cells to insulin which enables these cells to remove sugar more effectively from the blood.

Take Glixis-M4 Forte Tablet as prescribed by your doctor. You are advised to take Glixis-M4 Forte Tablet for as long as your doctor has prescribed it for you based on your medical condition. In some cases, you may experience stomach pain, nausea, diarrhoea, vomiting, headache or metallic taste. Most of these side effects of Glixis-M4 Forte Tablet do not require medical attention and gradually resolve over time. However, if the side effects persist or worsen, please consult your doctor.

If you are allergic to Glixis-M4 Forte Tablet or any other medicines, please tell your doctor. Glixis-M4 Forte Tablet is not recommended for children. Avoid breastfeeding while taking Glixis-M4 Forte Tablet as it may be excreted in human milk. If you are pregnant or planning for pregnancy, please inform your doctor before taking Glixis-M4 Forte Tablet as it may harm the unborn baby. Avoid alcohol consumption with Glixis-M4 Forte Tablet as it may increase the risk of lactic acidosis (accumulation of lactic acid in the body). Drive only if you are alert after taking Glixis-M4 Forte Tablet . Take short, frequent meals and avoid prolonged fasting while taking Glixis-M4 Forte Tablet .

GLIMEPIRIDE-4MG+METFORMIN-1000MGHypertensive heart and renal disease
Severe
How does the disease interact with Glixis-M4 Forte Tablet:
When compared to diet alone or diet plus insulin, the use of oral hypoglycemic medications may be associated with an increased risk of cardiovascular mortality. This alert is based on the University Group Diabetes Programme (UGDP) project, a long-term prospective clinical investigation aimed to assess the efficacy of glucose-lowering medications in preventing or delaying vascular problems in non-insulin-dependent diabetes patients. Patients treated for 5 to 8 years with diet with a fixed dose of either tolbutamide (a sulfonylurea) or phenformin (a biguanide) had a cardiovascular death risk nearly 2.5 times that of patients treated with diet alone, resulting in the cessation of both therapies in the research. Regardless of how these findings are interpreted, doctors and patients should be aware of the possibility.

How to manage the interaction:
The use of oral hypoglycemic agents may be associated with an increased risk of heart problems. Let the doctor know if you have heart problems.
GLIMEPIRIDE-4MG+METFORMIN-1000MGUnspecified kidney failure
Severe
How does the disease interact with Glixis-M4 Forte Tablet:
Sulfonylureas are metabolised in the liver and eliminated in the urine and faeces as metabolites (some of which have pharmacologic activity). Patients with poor liver and/or renal function who are treated with sulfonylureas may be exposed to increased serum drug concentrations, increasing the risk of severe hypoglycemia episodes. In the context of hepatic impairment, gluconeogenic ability may be reduced, adding to the risk. Sulfonylurea therapy should be used with caution in people who have liver or kidney illness. It is possible that lower dosages and longer intervals between dosage adjustments will be required. If hypoglycemia occurs during treatment, it may be prolonged in these patients due to slower medication metabolism and/or excretion.

How to manage the interaction:
In patients with kidney problems, severe hypoglycemic episodes may occur. Therapy should be administered cautiously in patients with renal disease.
GLIMEPIRIDE-4MG+METFORMIN-1000MGOther disorders of adrenal gland
Moderate
How does the disease interact with Glixis-M4 Forte Tablet:
Hypoglycemia is a common side effect of insulin and/or oral hypoglycemic medications. Patients who are debilitated or malnourished, those with defective counterregulatory mechanisms (e.g., autonomic neuropathy and adrenal or pituitary insufficiency), and those receiving beta-adrenergic blocking agents should exercise caution when using these drugs.

How to manage the interaction:
Care should be taken in patients who may be particularly susceptible to the development of hypoglycemic episodes during treatment.
GLIMEPIRIDE-4MG+METFORMIN-1000MGAnaemia due to enzyme disorders
Moderate
How does the disease interact with Glixis-M4 Forte Tablet:
In patients with glucose 6-phosphate dehydrogenase (G6PD) impairment, sulfonylureas can cause hemolytic anaemia. In individuals with G6PD deficiency, these medicines should be administered with caution, and a non-sulfonylurea option should be considered. Postmarketing reports of hemolytic anaemia in patients receiving these medications who did not have known G6PD deficiency have been received.

How to manage the interaction:
Therapy should be used with caution in patients with glucose 6-phosphate dehydrogenase (G6PD) deficiency. The use of a non-sulfonylurea alternative should be considered.
GLIMEPIRIDE-4MG+METFORMIN-1000MGOther disorders of fluid, electrolyte and acid-base balance
Moderate
How does the disease interact with Glixis-M4 Forte Tablet:
Treatment with sulfonylureas may cause hyponatremia in individuals who are taking other drugs or have medical disorders that cause hyponatremia, or it may stimulate the secretion of antidiuretic hormone. Certain sulfonylureas have been linked to the syndrome of inappropriate antidiuretic hormone (SIADH) secretion, and these medications may enhance the peripheral (antidiuretic) action of ADH and/or increase ADH release. Caution should be exercised when treating individuals who have hyponatremia or are at increased risk of developing hyponatremia, such as the elderly, those using diuretics, or those who are volume-depleted.

How to manage the interaction:
Caution should be used when treating patients with low sodium or at greater risk of developing low sodium such as elderly patients, patients taking diuretics or those who are volume-depleted.

You are not recommended to take Glixis-M4 Forte Tablet with phenytoin as it may reduce the effect of Glixis-M4 Forte Tablet and increase blood sugar levels. However, please consult a doctor before using Glixis-M4 Forte Tablet with other medicines.

Glixis-M4 Forte Tablet may increase the risk of low blood sugar levels especially with alcohol intake, exercise more than usual, delay or miss snacks or meal. However, if you experience any signs of low blood pressure such as dizziness, nausea, light-headedness, dehydration or fainting, please consult a doctor.

In type 1 diabetes, the body doesn’t produce insulin as the islet cells (insulin-producing cells) in the pancreas are destroyed completed. In type 2 diabetes, though islet cells are working, the body doesn’t respond to insulin as the body becomes resistant to insulin.

You are not recommended to stop taking Glixis-M4 Forte Tablet on your own as discontinuing Glixis-M4 Forte Tablet suddenly may cause recurring symptoms or worsen the condition. However, if you experience any difficulty while taking Glixis-M4 Forte Tablet , please consult your doctor so that alternative medicine may be prescribed.

Disease/Condition Glossary

Type 2 diabetes: It is a chronic (long-lasting) condition that keeps the body away from properly utilizing insulin. Hence, people affected with type 2 diabetes either do not produce enough insulin, or there is resistance to the action of insulin. Middle-aged or older are most likely to suffer from type 2 diabetes, so it is also known as adult-onset diabetes. Symptoms of type 2 diabetes include frequent urination at night, increased thirst, slow wound healing, increased hunger, fatigue, and blurred vision. In some cases, there may be weight gain, while in rare cases, weight loss may be observed. The complication of type 2 diabetes also includes nerve problems, kidney problems, damaged retina of eyes or blindness, loss of limbs, sexual dysfunction, and increase chance of heart attack or stroke.
