About Histacalamine Lotion 125 ml

Histacalamine Lotion 125 ml belongs to the class of medication called 'astringent' or anti-allergic, primarily used to treat skin infections (cuts, wounds, small burns) and allergies. Skin infection may occur when the skin is broken, cut or wounded. An allergy occurs when foreign elements known as allergens attack and invade our body, thereby causing histamine release (a chemical messenger) that causes swelling, inflammation, redness, itchiness, watery nose, throat, and eyes. 

Histacalamine Lotion 125 ml contains Chlorpheniramine (anti-histamine) and Calamine (astringent). Chlorpheniramine works by blocking the action of histamine, a substance responsible for causing allergic reactions. It directly acts on the brain and relieves allergy symptoms by preventing histamine release. Calamine is an astringent with antiseptic and soothing agent properties. So, it helps to heal wounds, cuts and burns. Collectively, both act as soothing lotions to treat skin infections.

Take Histacalamine Lotion 125 ml as prescribed by your doctor. You are advised to take Histacalamine Lotion 125 ml for as long as your doctor has prescribed it based on your medical condition. Some people may experience application site irritation, skin irritation, and a burning sensation. Most of these side effects of Histacalamine Lotion 125 ml do not require medical attention and gradually resolve over time. Directions for Use

Histacalamine Lotion 125 ml is only for external use. Take a small amount of Histacalamine Lotion 125 ml on the fingertip and apply it as a thin layer on the clean and dry affected area as prescribed by your doctor. Avoid contact of the Histacalamine Lotion 125 ml with the nose or eyes. In case of accidental contact with these areas, rinse with water thoroughly. Wash your hands before and after using Histacalamine Lotion 125 ml if your hands are not the affected area to prevent the spread of infection.

Avoid using Histacalamine Lotion 125 ml if you have taken antidepressants medicines such as linezolid, phenelzine, selegiline, rasagiline, isocarboxazid, tranylcypromine and methylene blue injection (for diagnosis) in the past 14 days as Histacalamine Lotion 125 ml has chlorpheniramine. In children under two years of age, Histacalamine Lotion 125 ml should not be used for skin irritation. Do not take $nma if you have haemorrhoids or other genital/anal conditions in children less than the age of 12 years. Drink plenty of fluids while taking Histacalamine Lotion 125 ml to protect yourself from being dehydrated or overheated during exercise and in hot weather, as Histacalamine Lotion 125 ml decreases sweating and increases heatstroke risk.
