About Kersol-BZ Lotion

Kersol-BZ Lotion is a dermatological medication, primarily used to treat eczema and psoriasis. Eczema is a skin condition associated with inflamed, itchy, cracked and rough skin patches. Psoriasis is a skin disease in which skin cells multiply rapidly to form bumpy (uneven) red patches covered with white scales.

Kersol-BZ Lotion is composed of three medicines: Betamethasone (corticosteroid), Salicylic acid (peeling agent), and Zinc oxide (antiseptic and astringent). Betamethasone belongs to the class of corticosteroids. It blocks the production of prostaglandins (chemical messengers) that make the affected area red, swollen and itchy. Betamethasone treats inflammation and itchiness caused by eczema and psoriasis. Salicylic acid is a keratolytic medicine (softens, separates, and causes desquamation (peeling) of the cornified epithelium or horny layer of skin). It increases the amount of moisture in the skin and dissolves the substance that causes the skin cells to stick together. Zinc oxide is a mild antiseptic and astringent (cleanses skin and tightens pores). It works by forming a barrier on the skin to protect it from moisture and irritants.

Your doctor will advise the appropriate use of Kersol-BZ Lotion that suits your infection. Common side effects of Kersol-BZ Lotion include itching, dryness, and burning sensation at the application site. These side effects are temporary and gradually resolve over time. If the side effects are persistent, please consult your doctor.

Let your doctor know if you are sensitive to Kersol-BZ Lotion or any other medications. Do not use topical Kersol-BZ Lotion on open wounds, blisters and lesions. Please do not cover the affected areas with a dressing or bandage since it increases the side effects. Kersol-BZ Lotion is not recommended for use in diaper rash and chickenpox. Pregnant and breastfeeding mothers should consult the doctor before starting Kersol-BZ Lotion.

Medicinal Benefits

Kersol-BZ Lotion treats various skin infections, such as eczema, psoriasis. It consists of Betamethasone, Salicylic acid and Zinc oxide. Betamethasone is a corticosteroid that blocks the production of prostaglandins (chemical messengers) that make the affected area red, swollen and itchy. It treats inflammation and itchiness caused by eczema and psoriasis. Salicylic acid is a keratolytic medicine (softens, separates and causes desquamation (peeling) of the cornified epithelium or horny layer of skin). It increases the amount of moisture in the skin and dissolves the substance that causes the skin cells to stick together. Salicylic acid breaks down the clumps of keratin, removes dead skin cells, and softens the skin. It is also an anti-inflammatory agent and topical antibacterial. Zinc oxide is a mild antiseptic and astringent (cleanses skin and tightens pores). It is a mineral that treats minor burns, severely chapped skin and other minor skin irritations. When applied to the skin, it forms a barrier to protect it from moisture and irritants. Thus, it acts as a protective coating for mild skin irritations and abrasions. Kersol-BZ Lotion removes the scaling and reduces the redness and itchiness due to skin infections.

FAQs

Kersol-BZ Lotion works by increasing the amount of moisture in the skin and relieves the inflammation and itchiness caused due to various skin infections like eczema and psoriasis. Kersol-BZ Lotion also protects the skin from external irritants by forming a barrier.

When used for longer periods, Betamethasone in Kersol-BZ Lotion gets absorbed in the blood circulation and can cause adrenal suppression and Cushing's syndrome. Your doctor will decide the dose and duration of Kersol-BZ Lotion based on the severity of your infection. It is advised to use Kersol-BZ Lotion only for the prescribed period since long term usage of Kersol-BZ Lotion on the skin may cause increased hair growth, and weakening and thinning of the skin.

Please do not stop using Kersol-BZ Lotion on your own even if the symptoms are relieved. Your symptoms may improve before the skin infection is completely cured. Continue the usage of Kersol-BZ Lotion until your course advised by the doctor is finished.
