About Leekuf-SF Syrup 100 ml

Leekuf-SF Syrup 100 ml belongs to a class of medications called ‘expectorants’ primarily used to treat dry cough. Additionally, Leekuf-SF Syrup 100 ml also treats allergy symptoms such as sneezing, runny nose, throat irritation or watery eyes. Coughing (dry or productive) is the body’s way of clearing irritants (like allergens, mucus or smoke) from airways and preventing infection. There are two types of coughs, namely: Dry cough and chesty cough. A dry cough is tickly and doesn't produce any vicious or thick mucus, while a chesty cough (wet cough) means mucous or sputum is produced to help clear your airways.

Leekuf-SF Syrup 100 ml is a combination of four drugs, namely: Guaiphenesin (expectorant), Dextromethorphan hydrobromide (cough suppressant), Phenylephrine hydrochloride (decongestant) and Chlorpheniramine maleate (antihistamine). Guaiphenesin belongs to the expectorant class that increases the volume of fluid in the airways, reduces the stickiness of mucus, and removes it from the airways. Dextromethorphan hydrobromide is a cough suppressant that works by blocking the transmission of nerve signals from the cough centre in the brain to the muscles that produce cough. Thus, it decreases the need to cough. Phenylephrine hydrochloride is a decongestant that works by contracting and narrowing the blood vessels. Thereby providing relief from congestion and decreasing mucus production. Chlorpheniramine maleate belongs to the class of antihistamines (anti-allergic drugs) that works by blocking the action of histamine, a substance responsible for causing allergic reactions.

Take Leekuf-SF Syrup 100 ml with or without food as advised by your doctor with the help of a measuring cup. Your doctor will recommend how often you take Leekuf-SF Syrup 100 ml based on your medical condition. Some people may experience nausea, stomach upset, vomiting, loss of appetite, drowsiness, headache, diarrhoea, dizziness or skin rash. Most of these side effects of Leekuf-SF Syrup 100 ml do not require medical attention and gradually resolve over time. However, if the side effects persist or worsen, please consult your doctor.

Please tell your doctor if you are allergic to Leekuf-SF Syrup 100 ml or any other medicines. If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, it is advised to inform your doctor before using Leekuf-SF Syrup 100 ml. If you are about to undergo any medical tests or surgery, please inform your doctor that you are taking Leekuf-SF Syrup 100 ml. Drink plenty of fluids while taking Leekuf-SF Syrup 100 ml to loosen the congestion. If you have high blood pressure, fits, glaucoma, hyperthyroidism (overactive thyroid), chronic bronchitis, asthma, cough with mucus, cough caused by smoking, chronic bronchitis or emphysema (a lung condition causing shortness of breath) or chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) inform your doctor before taking Leekuf-SF Syrup 100 ml.

Disease/Condition Glossary

Cough: Coughing is the body’s way of clearing irritants (like allergens, mucus, or smoke) from airways and preventing infection. Coughs may be dry or productive. A productive cough (wet cough) brings up sputum (phlegm, mucus, and other matter) from the lungs. Cough is commonly caused as a response to allergy or viral infection but coughing up mucus is possibly an indication of infection in the respiratory tract. If you are coughing thick, solid white mucus, it indicates you may have a bacterial infection in the airways. If the mucus is clear or light-coloured, it indicates you may have allergies or a minor infection in the respiratory tract, and yellow or green mucus indicates a respiratory infection.

Allergies: These occur when foreign elements known as allergens attack and invade our body, thereby causing the release of histamines. This chemical messenger, 'histamines' causes swelling, inflammation, redness, itchiness, itchy/watery nose and throat, and watery eyes. Allergies generally occur due to chemicals, air pollution, pet danders, dust, pollen hairs, seasonal allergies like hay fever, etc.
