About Metadec 50 Injection 1 ml

Metadec 50 Injection 1 ml belongs to the group of medications called ‘anabolic steroids’ used to treat osteoporosis in post-menopausal women. Osteoporosis is a medical condition in which bone becomes thin or weak. When a woman reaches menopause stage, ovaries stop making estrogen, a female hormone responsible for bone health. Due to the deficiency of estrogen, inadequate bone formation occurs, resulting in the weakening of bones. The earlier a woman reaches to her menopause, the more the chances of osteoporosis. This condition can result in brittle or broken bones if prompt treatment is not given.

Metadec 50 Injection 1 ml contains ‘Nandrolone’ which is a steroid used to prevent bone loss. It works by inhibiting bone resorption (breaking down of bone tissue) and promote bone formation. It can effectively delay bone loss.

The common side-effects of Metadec 50 Injection 1 ml are fluid retention in the tissues (swelling of the ankles or feet or increased blood pressure), masculinization (an increase in male characteristics in women) such as a change in voice, hoarseness, increase in body or facial hair or acne, increased libido (sexual desire), nausea and itching. It may also alter blood tests such as increased haemoglobin levels, changes in blood lipids (fats) and liver function tests. Inform your doctor if any of these side-effects persist or worsen.

Do not take Metadec 50 Injection 1 ml if you are allergic to ‘Nandrolone’ or any ingredients such as Arachis oil or peanut oil and benzyl alcohol present in it. It should not be given in conditions such as breast cancer in women with hypercalcemia (high calcium levels in the body), diagnosed or suspected breast cancer in men, kidney diseases and diagnosed or suspected prostate cancer. It should not be used in pregnant or breastfeeding women.

  • Gargle with salt water.
  • Using a steam humidifier or inhaling steam might help minimize hoarseness and release mucus.
  • Keep your skin clean by gently washing your face two times daily and after sweating. Choose a mild and non-abrasive cleanser.
  • Use gentle alcohol-free skin care products. Avoid products that might irritate your skin such as exfoliants, astringents and toners.
  • Acne may also occur due to oil in the hair. Thus, if you have oily hair, shampoo more frequently than you do now and keep your hair away from face.
  • Keep your hands off your face as touching face throughout the day might worsen acne. Also, do not pick, squeeze or pop acne as it will prolong the healing process and increase the risk of dark spots and scarring.

  • Your doctor might suggest giving it some time to see if there is any change in your sex drive after stopping the medication, adjusting the dose, or switching to another medication.
  • Engaging in regular aerobic exercise and strength training can improve your stamina, mood, and sex drive.

Drug Warnings

Metadec 50 Injection 1 ml may alter haemoglobin levels, so regular monitoring of patients should be required at least once in 3 months in the initial 12 months followed by once in a year till the completion of therapy. Elderly patients should be monitored for calcium levels and the presence of tumours. In patients with heart, kidney, liver diseases, epilepsy (fits), and migraine, there is a risk of oedema or fluid retention. In such cases, treatment should be discontinued immediately.

  • Metadec 50 Injection 1 ml may improve glucose tolerance and decrease the need for insulin or other anti-diabetic drugs in diabetic patients. Your doctor may advice monitoring of blood sugars especially at the beginning or end of treatment and at periodic intervals during Metadec 50 Injection 1 ml treatment.
  • High doses of Metadec 50 Injection 1 ml may enhance the anti-coagulant action of coumarin- type agents (warfarin, acenocumarol and phenprocoumon). Your doctor may advice close monitoring of prothrombin time and if necessary a dose reduction of the anti-coagulant is required during therapy.
