Metrogyl M Ointment 5 gm is a dermatological antibiotic medication, primarily used to treat bacterial skin infections, impetigo, rosacea, and bacterial vaginal infection (bacterial vaginosis). Bacterial infection occurs when harmful bacteria invade and affects the tissues of the skin. It can infect any part of the body and multiply very quickly. Impetigo is a contagious (spread by contact) infection that causes red sores on the face. Rosacea is a skin disease that causes redness, flushing, and pimples on the face.

Metrogyl M Ointment 5 gm is composed of two antibiotics: Mupirocin and Metronidazole. Mupirocin is an antibacterial drug. It prevents the synthesis of essential proteins required by bacteria to carry out its vital functions, thus preventing bacterial growth. Metronidazole belongs to the class of drugs called nitroimidazole antimicrobials. It exerts bactericidal (kills bacteria) action and inhibits bacterial DNA synthesis and cell growth.
