About Miacalcic Nasal 200

Miacalcic Nasal 200 belongs to groups of medications called hypocalcemic agents, primarily indicated for the treatment of postmenopausal osteoporosis in women more than five years postmenopause when alternative therapies are unsuitable. Post-menopausal osteoporosis is a medical condition that causes thinning and weakening of the bones during/after a menopausal period.

Miacalcic Nasal 200 contains Calcitonin, a human hormone that prevents bone breakdown and increases bone density (thickness). Thus it helps to treat osteoporosis in postmenopausal women.

Use Miacalcic Nasal 200 as prescribed by the doctor. Miacalcic Nasal 200 may cause certain side effects such as hypocalcemia, runny nose, nosebleed, sinus pain, application site reactions such as rhinitis (stuffy nose), epistaxis (nose bleeds) and other nasal symptoms, back pain, arthralgia (Joint pain) and headache. Most of these side effects do not require medical attention and gradually resolve over time. However, if these side effects persist longer, please consult your doctor.

Miacalcic Nasal 200 is for intranasal use only, do not inject or take it orally. Before using Miacalcic Nasal 200, inform your doctor of all your medical conditions, sensitivities, and all medications you are using. Miacalcic Nasal 200 is intended for post-menopausal women; therefore, Miacalcic Nasal 200 should not be recommended for other populations. Avoid drinking alcohol because it affects how the body absorbs calcium and vitamin D, which are essential for good bone formation.

Uses of Miacalcic Nasal 200

Postmenopausal osteoporosis

Directions for Use

Insert the tip of the bottle into a nostril while closing the other nostril and spray towards the sides of the nostril. Keep your head straight and breathe gently. Repeat the same process for another nostril.

Medicinal Benefits

Miacalcic Nasal 200 contains Calcitonin, a calcitonin receptor agonist that prevents the loss of bones that happens after menopause and helps to rebuild bones. Calcitonin is a hormone that the C-cells in the thyroid gland produce and release. It opposes the parathyroid hormone's action, helping regulate the blood’s calcium and phosphate levels. Miacalcic Nasal 200 works by suppressing the activity of the osteoclasts (cells that break down bone). When the osteoclasts break down bone tissue, the calcium enters the bloodstream. Miacalcic Nasal 200 lessens the amount of calcium in the blood by preventing the breakdown of bone. Thereby, Miacalcic Nasal 200 strengthens the bones and minimizes the risk of fractures. Miacalcic Nasal 200 also seems to decrease the amount of calcium the kidneys can re-absorb, lowering calcium levels further.

Storage

In rare situations, individuals using Miacalcic Nasal 200 may be affected with anaphylactic shock (a sudden, severe, life-threatening allergic reaction leading to difficulty breathing); if you encounter it, stop using Miacalcic Nasal 200 and contact your doctor immediately.

Disease/Condition Glossary

Postmenopausal osteoporosis: Postmenopausal osteoporosis is a medical disorder that causes bone loss and weakness during and after menopause. Estrogen insufficiency increases the risk of developing osteoporosis (weak bones). The decline in oestrogen during the menopause era (45 years of age) causes more bone resorption (osteoclasts; bone disintegration) than creation (osteoblasts; new bone development), leading to osteoporosis. Osteoporosis has no symptoms in the early stages. Yet, if sufficient care is not given, it might result in shattered bones. The bones do not pain at first, and breaks in the spine's bones may go unnoticed until they cause height reduction. Bones with osteoporosis might shatter at any time, even during normal tasks such as lifting or small activities.
