About Nitrogesic Ointment

Nitrogesic Ointment is used to treat moderate to severe pain associated with anal fissures. Besides this, it may assist in relieving pain and discomfort associated with haemorrhoids (piles) and haemorrhoidectomy (an operation to remove severe piles). An anal fissure is an incision in the anus or anal canal lining. The sign of an anal fissure is pain during or after a bowel movement.

Nitrogesic Ointment contains nitroglycerin; it works by relaxing blood vessels, thereby reducing pressure in the anal tissues. Thus, Nitrogesic Ointment treats pain and discomfort associated with anal fissures and piles.

Use Nitrogesic Ointment as prescribed by your doctor. Sometimes, Nitrogesic Ointment may cause nausea, headache, and dizziness. Most of these side effects are temporary, do not require medical attention, and gradually resolve over time. However, if the side effects are persistent, reach out to your doctor.

Inform your doctor before using Nitrogesic Ointment if you are pregnant, suspect you are pregnant, are planning pregnancy, or are breastfeeding. Do not use Nitrogesic Ointment if you have low blood pressure, heart or blood vessel disorders, closed-angle glaucoma, migraine, recurrent headaches, brain injury, cerebral haemorrhage or anaemia. Nitrogesic Ointment is not intended for children under the age of 18 since it has not been evaluated in this age group.

Directions for Use

Clean and dry the affected area. Wear disposable gloves and apply Nitrogesic Ointment to the affected area as a thin layer using your finger or applicator.

Medicinal Benefits

Nitrogesic Ointment contains nitroglycerin used to treat moderate to severe pain associated with anal fissures. Nitrogesic Ointment acts by relaxing the muscles surrounding the anus (anal sphincter), lowering anal pressure and improving blood flow to the affected area. On the other hand, it also assists in relieving pain and discomfort associated with haemorrhoids (piles) and haemorrhoidectomy (an operation to remove severe piles).

  • Follow a diet that consists of plenty of fibre-rich food (beans, chickpeas, coconuts, whole grains, broccoli), probiotic-rich foods (curd and buttermilk), fresh fruits and vegetables (lemon, oranges and seasonal vegetables, bananas).

No, it is recommended not to combine Nitrogesic Ointment with an erectile dysfunction medicine such as sildenafil or tadalafil. Using Nitrogesic Ointment with these medications leads to severe hypotension.

Headache is the most common side effect encountered while using Nitrogesic Ointment, which may be severe in some cases. If you experience a severe headache or the headache persists, consult your doctor immediately.

Heparin's effects may be reduced when combined with Nitrogesic Ointment. If you have any symptoms of a blood clot, such as chest pain, shortness of breath, sudden loss of vision, pain, redness, or swelling in an extremity, inform your doctor. To use both medications safely, your doctor may adjust the dose as well as suggest some medical tests.

Nitrogesic Ointment is not recommended for use in people with closed-angle glaucoma (a condition where the pressure inside the eye rises rapidly, causing loss of vision). If you have any concerns, please discuss them with the doctor.

Nitrogesic Ointment can be used to alleviate the pain and discomfort associated with haemorrhoids (piles) and haemorrhoidectomy (an operation to remove severe piles). However, it should be used under a doctor's supervision only.

In most cases, an anal fissure can be diagnosed with visual inspection as it is often visible. But in some cases, in addition to physical examination, the doctor can perform the following tests: anoscopy, flexible sigmoidoscopy, and colonoscopy.

Anal fissures generally heal independently, and if the condition lasts for more than eight weeks, it can be considered chronic. Sometimes surgery may also be needed depending upon the condition. Symptoms include tears of skin around the anus region, burning sensation, pain, and blood during a bowel movement.
