About Novomix 30 100IU/ml Flexpen 3 ml

Novomix 30 100IU/ml Flexpen 3 ml is a combination of rapid-acting human insulin and longer-acting insulin analogue to treat diabetes mellitus in children (above 2 years of age) and adults. It maintains blood sugar levels in adults and children. Diabetes mellitus is a condition that affects the way your body processes glucose. In Diabetes Mellitus Type 1, the body does not make enough insulin to control blood sugar levels. In Diabetes Mellitus type 2, either the body stops producing enough insulin (the hormone which helps to decrease sugar levels in the blood), or there is resistance to insulin action. As a result, insulin is produced in large amounts, but it cannot act on the organs of the body.

Novomix 30 100IU/ml Flexpen 3 ml is a combination medicine that contains insulin aspart (rapid-acting), and the other is insulin aspart protamine (longer-acting). Insulin aspart has a fast onset of action, and insulin aspart protamine has a prolonged duration of action. Together, they ensure rapid and stable sugar control by enabling the reuptake of sugar in muscle and fat cells and decreasing sugar production in the liver.

Take Novomix 30 100IU/ml Flexpen 3 ml as prescribed by your doctor. You are advised to take Novomix 30 100IU/ml Flexpen 3 ml for as long as your doctor has prescribed it for you, depending on your medical conditions. You may experience weight gain, injection site allergic reaction, rash, lipodystrophy (skin thickening or pits at the injection site), hypoglycaemia (low blood glucose level), and itching. Most of these side effects of Novomix 30 100IU/ml Flexpen 3 ml do not require medical attention and gradually resolve over time. However, if the side effects are persistent, reach out to your doctor.

Try not to stop taking Novomix 30 100IU/ml Flexpen 3 ml of your own. Let your doctor know about this, as it may cause withdrawal symptoms. Do not take Novomix 30 100IU/ml Flexpen 3 ml if you have liver disease, kidney, and low potassium levels in your blood. Inform your doctor if you are pregnant and breastfeeding while taking Novomix 30 100IU/ml Flexpen 3 ml. Insulin is a cold chain medicine, so it must be stored in the refrigerator between 2-8 degrees Celsius or its efficiency might get lost. Do not store in the freezer.

Uses of Novomix 30 100IU/ml Flexpen 3 ml

Type 1 diabetes mellitus, Type 2 diabetes mellitus

Medicinal Benefits

Novomix 30 100IU/ml Flexpen 3 ml works by ensuring rapid and stable sugar control. Novomix 30 100IU/ml Flexpen 3 ml is combination of fast-acting and intermediate acting insulin that helps lower blood sugar levels after the intake of food. Prevents the risk of having severe complications of diabetes. It stimulates the recovery of sugar in muscle and fat cells and thus suppresses the production of sugar in the liver. Novomix 30 100IU/ml Flexpen 3 ml helps in improving the glycaemic control which in turn decreases the risk of progression of complications of diabetes like damage of retina (retinopathy), damage of kidney (nephropathy), damage of nerve cells (neuropathy), delayed wound healing, diabetic foot ulcer and others.

Directions for Use

Novomix 30 100IU/ml Flexpen 3 ml should be administered 15 minutes before taking the meal subcutaneously (SC) in the abdomen or thigh region. However, subcutaneous injection of Novomix 30 100IU/ml Flexpen 3 ml in the abdomen region ensures a faster absorption than other injection sites. Drug Warnings

Novomix 30 100IU/ml Flexpen 3 ml is for subcutaneous (under the skin) use only and should never be administered intravenously (IV) or in the veins. If you are changing the insulin brand or need to inject your insulin by another method, it should be done under strict medical supervision. Cases of heart failure have been reported when pioglitazone was used with insulin, especially in patients at high risk of cardiac heart failure. The first hyperglycemia symptoms (high blood sugar level) may include excessive thirst, dry mouth, increased frequency of urination, nausea, vomiting, drowsiness, flushed dry skin, loss of appetite, and acetone odour of the breath. You should closely monitor these symptoms. Symptoms like heart failure, weight gain and oedema (fluid deposition in tissue) should not be overruled. It is advisable not to consume alcohol as it may increase or decrease your blood glucose level. Care should be taken while travelling across more than two time zones. Your doctor may adjust your insulin schedule. Novomix 30 100IU/ml Flexpen 3 ml may decrease the level of potassium, leading to a state of hypokalaemia that, if left untreated, may lead to respiratory paralysis, irregular heartbeat rhythm, coma, and even death. Do not take Novomix 30 100IU/ml Flexpen 3 ml if you have any low blood glucose levels, kidney, liver, or heart problems, or problems with alcohol or other prescription recreational drugs.

  • Exercise may lower your body’s need for insulin during and for some time after the physical activity.

  • Exercise may also speed up the effect of an insulin dose, especially if the exercise involves the area of injection site (for example, the leg should not be used for injection just prior to running).

  • Discuss with your doctor how you should adjust your insulin regimen to accommodate exercise.

  • Avoid eating sugar food and prefer food cooked food low in calories.

  • When traveling across more than 2 time zones, you should talk to your doctor concerning adjustments in your insulin schedule.

Special Advise

  • You should undergo a test called the HbA1C (A1C) every 2-3 months for closely monitoring your blood sugar level while taking Novomix 30 100IU/ml Flexpen 3 ml.

  • While using Novomix 30 100IU/ml Flexpen 3 ml your blood sugar level might dip, which can result in seizure or unconsciousness, you should carry a quick source of sugar (glucose tablets or sugar candies) with you if you have symptoms of low blood sugar.

  • Discard the used insulin pen after 14 days, even if there is slight insulin left in it.

  • Your doctor may tell you to have a regular potassium level as prolonged administration causes a life-threatening hypokalemia condition (low potassium).
