About Ocuheel Ophthalmic Gel

Ocuheel Ophthalmic Gel belongs to the class of 'antivirals' used in treating herpes simplex keratitis. Herpes simplex keratitis is an infection that affects the cornea of the eye front surface of the eye) caused by the herpes simplex virus (HSV).

Ocuheel Ophthalmic Gel contains Gancyclovir, which works by killing and stopping the growth of the herpes simplex virus on the cornea. Thereby helping to treat herpes simplex keratitis.

Ocuheel Ophthalmic Gel is for ophthalmic (for the eye) use only. Avoid ingestion of this medicine. In case of accidental intake, consult your doctor immediately. Common side effects of Ocuheel Ophthalmic Gel include eye irritation, burning/stinging sensation at the site of application, temporary blurred vision, sensitivity to the light, swollen and runny eyes, inflammation of the eyelids, and foreign body sensation. These side effects may not occur in every patient using Ocuheel Ophthalmic Gel and gradually resolve over time if they occur. If the side effects persist longer or worsen, please seek a doctor's advice.

Inform your doctor if you are allergic to any component present in this medication. Pregnant and breastfeeding women should consult the doctor before using the Ocuheel Ophthalmic Gel. Ocuheel Ophthalmic Gel may cause temporary blurred vision; hence avoid driving or operating machinery. Avoid contact of the tip of the dispensing container with the eye, eyelids, fingers, and other surfaces to prevent contamination. Ocuheel Ophthalmic Gel should be used in children only when advised by a doctor.

Uses of Ocuheel Ophthalmic Gel

Herpes simplex keratitis

Directions for Use

Ocuheel Ophthalmic Gel is for ophthalmic use only. Wash your hands thoroughly before and after using Ocuheel Ophthalmic Gel. Lie down and tilt your head backwards. Pull your lower eyelid gently with your index finger to form a pocket. Instil the number of drops or a tiny amount of gel, as advised by the doctor, into the pocket of the lower eyelid. Close your eyes for 1-2 minutes. Replace the outer cap after use. Do not touch the container’s tip to the eye, eyelids or surrounding areas as it may contaminate Ocuheel Ophthalmic Gel.

  • Manage stress, eat healthily, drink plenty of water, exercise regularly, and get plenty of sleep.
  • Eat foods rich in antioxidants such as berries, spinach, kidney beans, dark chocolate, etc.
  • Know your allergy triggers, such as pollen, dust and other factors.
  • Do not rub your eyes even though some ophthalmic drugs make your eye itchy.
  • If you wear contact lenses: Clean and replace contact lenses more often. Never share contact lenses. Always wash your hands before inserting and removing the contact lens. 
  • Avoid staring at digital screens for longer durations. Rest your eyes every 20 minutes.

It is advised to remove your contact lens while using Ocuheel Ophthalmic Gel. Also, remember to wash your hands before and after using the medication to avoid contamination.

If you use other eye formulations along with Ocuheel Ophthalmic Gel, it is advised to maintain a gap of at least 5-10 minutes between each administration. Also, use eye drops before applying any eye ointments.

Avoid the contact of the dropper or tip with fingers, eyes, and eyelids when using Ocuheel Ophthalmic Gel. Topical eye products, when contaminated by patients with eye diseases, bacterial keratitis (an infection of the cornea) and ocular infections (eye infections) may occur, which result in vision loss.
