Polycap Capsule 15's

Polycap Capsule 15's is a combination medicine used for the prevention of cardiovascular events and stroke. Polycap Capsule 15's helps in lowering of blood pressure, heart rate, lipid levels and decreases the stickiness of platelets. Heart attack or stroke occurs due to the blockage of blood flow to the heart muscle. The blockade usually occurs due to build-up of fat/cholesterol in the coronary artery. Polycap Capsule 15's lowers the risk of heart attack or stroke by controlling the blood pressure, lowering the fat and increasing HDL (good cholesterol) levels.
 
Polycap Capsule 15's contains Simvastatin (lipid-lowering agent), Ramipril (ACE inhibitor), Atenolol (beta-blocker), Aspirin (anti-platelet) and Hydrochlorothiazide (diuretic). Simvastatin helps in lowering the levels of LDL (bad) cholesterol, triglycerides and raises the levels of HDL (good) cholesterol. Ramipril relaxes the blood vessels and allows smooth blood flow. Atenolol slows down the heart rate and makes it more efficient at pumping blood. Hydrochlorothiazide helps in removal of unneeded water and salts from the body. Aspirin decreases the formation of harmful clots by preventing the platelets from sticking together. Together, Polycap Capsule 15's helps in lowering the risk of a heart attack. 
 
You are advised to take Polycap Capsule 15's for as long as your doctor has prescribed it for you depending on your medical condition. In some cases, you may experience certain common side-effects such as weakness, indigestion, constipation, dizziness and musculoskeletal pain. Most of these side-effects do not require medical attention and will resolve gradually over time. However, you are advised to talk to your doctor if you experience these side-effects persistently.
 
Do not take Polycap Capsule 15's if you are pregnant, think you may be pregnant or if you are trying for pregnancy. Talk to a doctor immediately if you become pregnant while taking Polycap Capsule 15's. Consult your doctor before taking Polycap Capsule 15's if you are breastfeeding. Polycap Capsule 15's may cause dizziness, so be cautious while driving. Avoid consuming alcohol with Polycap Capsule 15's as it could lead to increased dizziness. Polycap Capsule 15's is not recommended for children as safety and effectiveness have not been established. Inform your doctor regarding your health condition and the medicines you are taking to rule out any side-effects/interactions.

Do not take Polycap Capsule 15's if you are allergic to any of its contents, if you are taking fusidic acid or sacubitril. Inform your doctor if you are due to have surgery, drink large amounts of alcohol, if you have asthma, diabetes, overactive thyroid, pheochromocytoma (tumour of the adrenal gland), gout, glaucoma, stomach or intestinal bleeding or bleeding disorders, stomach ulcers, liver or kidney problems. • Follow a cholesterol-lowering diet.
• Consume low-salt and a low-fat diet.
• Exercise regularly. It helps in maintaining proper weight and lowers cholesterol.
• Limit salt and sugar intake.
• Avoid smoking and alcohol consumption. 
• Choose healthy fats and cut down on trans-fat.
• Include omega-3 fatty acids, fibre-rich food, fruits and vegetables.
• Get active by doing any physical activity such as swimming, brisk walking or jogging. Take the stairs instead of elevators/lifts.

• Regular blood tests are advised to determine the effect of Polycap Capsule 15's on lipids. 
• Consult your doctor immediately if you experience muscle pain, weakness, or tenderness, especially if associated with fever or tiredness.
• Polycap Capsule 15's might affect test results for liver function and muscle enzyme (creatin-kinase). Inform the person doing the tests that you are taking Polycap Capsule 15's.
• It is advisable to have complete cholesterol tests (lipid profile test) at least once a year. It will help you to closely monitor your heart health and risk of heart attack and stroke. 
• Regularly monitor blood pressure levels, heart rate and electrolyte levels.

Cholesterol is mainly of two types, namely bad cholesterol and good cholesterol. Bad cholesterol comprises low-density lipoprotein (LDL) and triglycerides (TG) which deposit fat in the arteries leading to their blockage. Good cholesterol consists of high-density lipoprotein (HDL), which prevents the deposition of fats. Symptoms of angina include pain or tightness in the chest, discomfort, pain in the neck, arms or back, weakness, lightheadedness and abnormal heartbeat. Risk factors include obesity, stress, smoking, high-fat diet, lack of exercise and genetics.
