About Pred Forte Ophthalmic Suspension

Pred Forte Ophthalmic Suspension belongs to the class of medicines called corticosteroids used to reduce eye inflammation caused by certain conditions. It is used to provide relief from eye redness, irritation, burning and swelling caused by heat, radiation, chemicals, allergy or foreign objects in the eye. Eye inflammation is a common condition in which eyes become swollen and red.  

Pred Forte Ophthalmic Suspension contains Prednisolone acetate (corticosteroid) and Benzalkonium chloride (preservative). Prednisolone acetate belongs to the class of corticosteroids that works by inhibiting the release of certain chemical messengers in the body that cause redness, itching and swelling. Benzalkonium chloride acts as a preservative. 

Pred Forte Ophthalmic Suspension is only for ophthalmic use (eyes). You are advised to use Pred Forte Ophthalmic Suspension for as long as your doctor has prescribed it for you based on your medical condition. In some cases, you may experience mild eye irritation, headache, red eye, blurred vision or a feeling of something in the eye. Most of these side effects of Pred Forte Ophthalmic Suspension do not require medical attention and gradually resolve over time. However, if the side effects worsen or persist, please consult your doctor. 

If you are allergic to Pred Forte Ophthalmic Suspension or any other medicines, please tell your doctor. Pred Forte Ophthalmic Suspension is not recommended for children as the safety and effectiveness were not established. If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, please inform your doctor before using Pred Forte Ophthalmic Suspension. Drive only if your vision is clear as Pred Forte Ophthalmic Suspension may cause temporary blurred vision immediately after using. If you have bacterial, viral or fungal eye infections, ulcers or injuries on the cornea, tuberculosis of the eye, glaucoma, or had herpes simplex, inform your doctor before using Pred Forte Ophthalmic Suspension. 

Uses of Pred Forte Ophthalmic Suspension

Directions for Use

Pred Forte Ophthalmic Suspension is for ophthalmic use only. You are recommended to wash your hands before and after use. Lie down and tilt your head backwards. Pull your lower eyelid gently with your index finger to form a pocket. Instil the number of drops advised by the doctor into the pocket of the lower eyelid. Close your eyes for 1-2 minutes. Finally, replace the cap tightly after use. Do not touch the container’s tip to the eye, eyelids or surrounding areas as it may contaminate Pred Forte Ophthalmic Suspension.

Medicinal Benefits

Pred Forte Ophthalmic Suspension is used to provide relief from eye redness, irritation, burning and swelling caused by heat, radiation, chemicals, allergy or foreign objects in the eye. Pred Forte Ophthalmic Suspension contains Prednisolone acetate and Benzalkonium chloride. However, if you experience loss of appetite, headache, nausea, vomiting, lethargy (very tired), irritability, difficulty concentrating, weakness, unsteadiness, memory impairment, confusion, muscle spasm, decreased urination, and/or sudden weight gain, contact a doctor immediately. Do not discontinue the medication without consulting a doctor.
How does the drug interact with Pred Forte Ophthalmic Suspension 10 ml:
Taking Pred Forte Ophthalmic Suspension 10 ml with Fingolimod can increase the risk of developing serious infections.

How to manage the interaction:
Although there is a possible interaction between Pred Forte Ophthalmic Suspension 10 ml and Fingolimod, you can take these medicines together if prescribed by a doctor. However, if you experience fever, chills, diarrhea, sore throat, muscle pains, breathing difficulty, blood in your coughing fluid, weight loss, red or irritated skin, body sores, and discomfort or burning when you urinate, consult a doctor. People over the age of 60 and people who have had a kidney, heart, or lung transplant may be especially at risk.

However, if you experience pain, inflammation, or swelling of a tendon area such as the back of the ankle, biceps, shoulder, hand, or thumb, stop taking norfloxacin and consult a doctor. Do not discontinue any medications without consulting a doctor.
How does the drug interact with Pred Forte Ophthalmic Suspension 10 ml:
Co-administration of Tofacitinib and Pred Forte Ophthalmic Suspension 10 ml can increase the risk of serious infections, diverticular disease (development of small bulges in the lining of the intestine), or gastrointestinal bleeding or perforation.

Although taking Tofacitinib and Pred Forte Ophthalmic Suspension 10 ml together can result in an interaction, it can be taken if a doctor has prescribed it. If you experience fever, chills, diarrhea, sore throat, muscle aches, shortness of breath, blood in the coughing fluid, weight loss, red or inflamed skin, body sores, pain or burning when urinating, severe abdominal pain, fever, nausea, or vomiting, consult a doctor immediately. You are not recommended to wear contact lenses while using Pred Forte Ophthalmic Suspension as it contains benzalkonium chloride, a preservative that changes the colour of contact lens as it may be absorbed by soft contact lens. Therefore, you are advised to remove contact lenses before using Pred Forte Ophthalmic Suspension and reinsert after 15 minutes of using Pred Forte Ophthalmic Suspension. Also, inform your doctor if you experience pain, stinging or abnormal sensation in the eye after using Pred Forte Ophthalmic Suspension.

Pred Forte Ophthalmic Suspension may cause temporary blurred vision. Therefore, you are recommended to wait until your vision is clear before driving or operating heavy machinery.

You are not recommended to stop using Pred Forte Ophthalmic Suspension without consulting your doctor as it may rarely flare-up inflammatory response such as retina swelling. Therefore, use Pred Forte Ophthalmic Suspension for as long as your doctor has prescribed it and if you experience any difficulty while taking Pred Forte Ophthalmic Suspension, please consult your doctor.

Pred Forte Ophthalmic Suspension can be used with other eye medications if advised by the doctor. However, maintain a gap of 5-10minutes between Pred Forte Ophthalmic Suspension and other eye medications.
