About RF-3 Forte Tablet

RF-3 Forte Tablet belongs to the group of medicines called 'anti-tuberculosis drugs' primarily used to treat tuberculosis. Also known as TB, Tuberculosis is an infectious disease caused by Mycobacterium tuberculosis that mainly affects the lungs, but it can also spread to other body parts such as kidneys, brain, spine, and bone marrow. RF-3 Forte Tablet does not work against infections caused by the virus, including cold and flu.

RF-3 Forte Tablet is a combination of three anti-tuberculosis drugs, namely: Rifampicin, Isoniazid and Pyrazinamide. Rifampicin inhibits DNA-dependent RNA polymerase activity in the bacteria. Isoniazid inhibits the biosynthesis of mycolic acid, which is the major component of the cell wall. Pyrazinamide inhibits the growth of the bacteria. Together, RF-3 Forte Tablet kills Mycobacterium tuberculosis which causes TB (tuberculosis).

Take RF-3 Forte Tablet as prescribed. In some cases, you may experience certain common side-effects such as weakness, nausea, vomiting, stomach pain, and joint or muscle pain. Most of these side-effects do not require medical attention and will resolve gradually over time. However, you are advised to talk to your doctor if you experience these side-effects persistently.

Avoid foods and drinks containing histamine or tyramine, such as cured meat, matured cheese, soya, tuna, salmon, mackerel, wine, and beer, while taking RF-3 Forte Tablet as they might cause interaction. Maintain a gap of one hour between RF-3 Forte Tablet and antacid medicines. Consult your doctor before taking RF-3 Forte Tablet if you are pregnant. Avoid breastfeeding while taking RF-3 Forte Tablet as it passes into breast milk.

Directions for Use

Tablet/Capsule: Take it on an empty stomach, i.e., 30 minutes before food or 2 hours after food. Swallow it as a whole; do not crush or chew it.Dispersible tablet: Disperse the tablet in a teaspoonful of boiled and cooled water before administration.

Drug Warnings

Do not take RF-3 Forte Tablet if you are allergic to any of its contents; if you have jaundice, or if you are taking HIV medicines (saquinavir or ritonavir). Before starting RF-3 Forte Tablet , please inform your doctor if you have diabetes, epilepsy, gout, mental health problems, HIV infection, malnutrition, peripheral neuropathy, porphyria, bleeding problems, kidney or liver problems. Avoid foods and drinks containing histamine or tyramine, such as cured meat, matured cheese, soya, tuna, salmon, mackerel, wine, and beer while taking RF-3 Forte Tablet as they might cause interaction. Maintain a gap of one hour between RF-3 Forte Tablet and antacid medicines. Consult your doctor before taking RF-3 Forte Tablet if you are pregnant. Avoid breastfeeding while taking RF-3 Forte Tablet as it passes into breast milk. RF-3 Forte Tablet may cause dizziness, and vision problems, so drive with caution. Avoid alcohol consumption while taking RF-3 Forte Tablet as it could lead to increased liver damage. Keep your doctor informed about your health condition and all the medicines you are taking to rule out any interactions.

Do not stop taking RF-3 Forte Tablet despite symptomatic relief. To treat your condition effectually, continue taking RF-3 Forte Tablet for as long as it has been prescribed for you.

Do not take RF-3 Forte Tablet along with antacids as it might decrease the effectiveness of RF-3 Forte Tablet . Maintain a minimum gap of 1 hour between both.

Consult your doctor before taking RF-3 Forte Tablet with other medicines. Medicines used to treat TB, such as PAS (P-amino salicylic acid) and cycloserine, should be taken 8 hours apart from RF-3 Forte Tablet if prescribed.

RF-3 Forte Tablet contains isoniazid which might interact with foods and drinks containing histamine or tyramine, such as cured meat, matured cheese, soya, tuna, salmon, mackerel, wine, and beer. Avoid these foods while taking RF-3 Forte Tablet .

RF-3 Forte Tablet might decrease the effectiveness of oral contraceptives (birth control pills). This could lead to an unplanned pregnancy. Instead, use a reliable barrier method of contraception such as condoms or the coil while taking RF-3 Forte Tablet . Consult your doctor if you have any concerns regarding this; your doctor may suggest an alternate method of contraception.

RF-3 Forte Tablet may cause discolouration of teeth, sweat, urine, sputum (phlegm), saliva, or tears. The colour in tears may last for some time, even after you stop taking RF-3 Forte Tablet . Do not worry as it is a common side-effect of RF-3 Forte Tablet .

Yes, RF-3 Forte Tablet might permanently stain soft contact lenses. Use spectacles and avoid wearing contact lens while taking RF-3 Forte Tablet .

RF-3 Forte Tablet may affect test results of some blood tests such as tests for folate, vitamin B12, and liver function. Inform the person doing the tests that you are taking RF-3 Forte Tablet .

RF-3 Forte Tablet may cause liver problems, especially in people aged 35 and older.
