STARPILL TABLET is a combination medicine used to treat hypertension (high blood pressure) and lower the risk of heart attack and stroke. Hypertension is a medical condition in which blood pressure is elevated persistently in the arteries. Heart attack refers to blocked blood flow to the heart due to blockage of arteries. A stroke occurs due to blocked blood flow to the brain.
STARPILL TABLET contains Aspirin (antiplatelet), Atenolol (beta-blocker), Atorvastatin (statin), and Losartan (Angiotensin receptor blocker). Aspirin decreases the formation of harmful blood clots by preventing platelets from sticking together. Atenolol acts by inhibiting beta receptors in the heart, causing the heart to beat more slowly and with less force. Thereby, it decreases the pressure at which blood is pumped out of the heart and throughout the body. Atorvastatin belongs to the class of statins or HMG-CoA reductase inhibitors that work by inhibiting the HMG-CoA reductase enzyme in the body that is essential to make cholesterol. Thereby, it decreases the production of LDL (bad cholesterol) by the liver. Also, it reduces the risk of stroke or heart attack by lowering the excess cholesterol deposition in the major blood vessels of the brain and heart. Losartan works by blocking the angiotensin II receptors. Thus, it reduces the production of angiotensin II, which causes constriction and narrowing of blood vessels. This allows the blood vessels to relax and widen and lower blood pressure. Together, STARPILL TABLET helps to reduce cholesterol levels, lower high blood pressure and reduces the risk of heart attack and stroke.
Take STARPILL TABLET as prescribed. You are advised to take STARPILL TABLET for as long as your doctor has recommended it based on your medical condition. Sometimes, STARPILL TABLET may cause common side effects such as indigestion, increased tendency for bleeding, headache, nausea, constipation, diarrhoea, tiredness, dizziness, or back pain. Most of these side effects of STARPILL TABLET do not require medical attention and gradually resolve over time. However, if the side effects persist, please consult your doctor.
If you are allergic to aspirin, atenolol, atorvastatin, losartan or any other medicines, please tell your doctor. If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, it is advised to consult a doctor before taking STARPILL TABLET. Avoid drinking alcohol with STARPILL TABLET as it may cause tiredness. Drive only if you are alert, as STARPILL TABLET may cause dizziness or tiredness. If you are about to undergo surgery where an anaesthetic is used, please tell your doctor that you are taking STARPILL TABLET.

Drug-Drug Interaction: Inform your doctor if you are taking blood thinners (warfarin, heparin, clopidogrel), antidiabetic drugs (insulin, empagliflozin), antidepressants (duloxetine, alprazolam), calcium channel blockers (amlodipine), diuretic (furosemide), skeletal muscle relaxant (cyclobenzaprine), sedative (zolpidem), proton pump inhibitor (esomeprazole), antihistamine (diphenhydramine), and anticonvulsant (pregabalin).
Drug-Food Interaction: Avoid taking more than one or two small glasses of grapefruit juice per day, as large quantities of grapefruit juice can change the effects of Atorvastatin. STARPILL TABLET may interact with St. John’s wort (herbal supplement used to treat depression). Also, avoid alcohol consumption as it may increase tiredness.
Drug-Disease Interaction: If you have ever had an ulcer in your stomach or small intestine, have blood circulation problems, asthma, heavy menstrual periods, hypothyroidism (under-active thyroid gland), phaeochromocytoma (tumour in the adrenal gland), severe respiratory failure, diabetes, liver, heart or kidney problems, inform your doctor before taking STARPILL TABLET.
Hypertension: It is a chronic condition in which blood pressure is too high. This condition can lead to hardened arteries (blood vessels), decreasing the blood and oxygen flow to the heart. Raised blood pressure can cause chest pain (angina) and heart attack (when the blood supply to the heart is blocked). High blood pressure also causes brain damage (stroke) and kidney failure. Normal blood pressure lies between 90/60 mm of Hg and 120/80 mm of Hg. If the blood pressure is 140/90 mmHg or greater, it is considered high blood pressure.
Heart attack: It refers to blocked blood flow to the heart due to the blockage of arteries. The blockage is most often a build-up of fat, cholesterol, and other substances, which form a plaque in the arteries that feed the heart (coronary arteries). The symptoms include discomfort in the chest or upper areas of the body, shortness of breath, or lightheadedness.
Stroke: It occurs due to blocked blood flow to the brain. Symptoms include arm weakness and speech difficulty. Heart attack or stroke may occur due to high cholesterol, high blood pressure, diabetes, obesity, smoking, family history, or lack of physical activity.
