Supirocin-B Ointment 5 gm

Supirocin-B Ointment 5 gm is a dermatological medication, primarily used to treat various skin infections, such as eczema (inflamed, itchy, cracked and rough skin patches), psoriasis (red patches on the skin with white scales), dermatitis (itchy inflammation of the skin), allergies and impetigo. Supirocin-B Ointment 5 gm also treats folliculitis (infected hair follicles) and boils (furunculosis). Skin infection occurs when a foreign microorganism like fungus or bacteria invades the skin and affects the tissues. Impetigo is a contagious (spread by contact) infection that causes red sores on the face.

Supirocin-B Ointment 5 gm is composed of two medicines: Betamethasone (corticosteroid) and Mupirocin (antibiotic). Betamethasone belongs to the class of corticosteroids. It blocks the production of prostaglandins (chemical messengers) that make the affected area red, swollen and itchy. On the other hand, Mupirocin is an antibacterial drug. It prevents the synthesis of essential proteins required by bacteria to carry out its vital functions, thus preventing bacterial growth.

Use Supirocin-B Ointment 5 gm as suggested by the doctor. Supirocin-B Ointment 5 gm is for external use only. Your doctor will advise the appropriate dose that suits your infection. Common side effects of Supirocin-B Ointment 5 gm include itching, burning sensation, irritation, and redness at the application site. These side effects of Supirocin-B Ointment 5 gm do not require medical attention and gradually resolve over time. If the side effects persist longer, please consult your doctor.

Do not use Supirocin-B Ointment 5 gm on open wounds, blisters and lesions. Cover the affected areas with a dressing or bandage only if the doctor advised you to do so. Pregnant and breastfeeding mothers should consult the doctor before starting Supirocin-B Ointment 5 gm. Supirocin-B Ointment 5 gm is not recommended for children below 13 years of age without a doctor's advice.

Avoid applying Supirocin-B Ointment 5 gm on the sunburns, lesions, blisters and open wounds. Cover the affected areas with dressing or bandage only if the doctor advised you to do so. Supirocin-B Ointment 5 gm is not recommended for use in diaper rash. Pregnant and breastfeeding mothers should consult the doctor before starting Supirocin-B Ointment 5 gm. Supirocin-B Ointment 5 gm is not recommended for children below 13 years of age without a doctor's advice.

• Use mild soap while taking baths and prefer warm baths.
• Always wear loose-fitting clothes to avoid further sweat and spread of skin infection.
• Regularly change your socks and wash your feet. Avoid shoes that make your feet sweaty and hot.
• Do not walk barefoot at places like gym showers to prevent infections.
• Do not scratch the affected area of skin as it can spread the infection to other body parts.
• Avoid sharing towels, combs, bedsheets, shoes or socks with others.
• Wash your bedsheets and towels regularly.
• Avoid or limit the intake of alcohol and caffeine.
• Manage stress, eat healthily, drink plenty of water, exercise regularly and get plenty of sleep.

• Monitor your blood glucose levels regularly since Betamethasone in Supirocin-B Ointment 5 gm can cause a rise in blood sugar levels in diabetic patients.
• It is advised to keep a check on your cortisol levels with 8 AM morning cortisol test since longer period usage of Supirocin-B Ointment 5 gm may cause Cushing's syndrome and adrenal suppression.

Eczema: It is a condition in which skin patches become inflamed, itchy, cracked and rough. 

Psoriasis: It is a skin disorder in which skin cells multiply and form bumpy (uneven) red patches covered with white scales. 

Dermatitis: It is a skin condition that causes itchy, dry skin or a rash on swollen, reddened skin. 

Impetigo: It is a highly contagious (spread by contact) infection that causes red sores on the face. It mainly affects infants and children. The sores developed on the skin usually rupture, ooze and later form a yellow-brown crust after a few days.
