It works by blocking the action of DPP-4 (an enzyme that destroys the hormone 'Incretin'). In some cases, you may experience certain common side effects such as headache, hypoglycemia (low blood glucose levels), upper respiratory tract infection, and nasopharyngitis (infection of the nose and throat with a common cold). The safety and efficacy of Tenefron 20mg Tablet 10s in children have not been established, so it should not be given to them. Prolonged intake of Tenefron 20mg Tablet 10s may cause acute pancreatitis (swollen pancreas). Increased risk of hypoglycemia (low blood sugar level) can occur when Tenefron 20mg Tablet 10s is added to other anti-diabetic agents or insulin therapy. Drug-Drug Interaction: Tenefron 20mg Tablet 10s interacts with medicines used to treat diabetes (glipizide, gliclazide, glimepiride) medicines used to treat high blood pressure (atenolol, bisoprolol, metoprolol, nadolol, propranolol), anti-depressant (bupropion, selegiline, isocarboxazid, phenelzine), painkillers (aspirin).
Drug-Food Interaction: Intake of excessive alcoholic beverages may increase the chance of a life-threatening condition known as Lactic Acidosis. So, avoid intake of alcoholic beverages with Tenefron 20mg Tablet 10s.
Drug-Disease Interaction: Tenefron 20mg Tablet 10s should be used with caution in patients with a history of pancreatitis/pancreatic disease, heart disease, severe ketosis, diabetic coma or history of diabetic coma, severe infection, surgery, and severe trauma.
You should have a test of Glycated haemoglobin (HbA1C) every 3 months to check your blood glucose level control.
