Tocef CV 50 mg/31.5 mg Tablet DT belongs to the group of medicines called antibiotics used to treat various bacterial infections such as pharyngitis/tonsillitis (throat infections), otitis media (ear infections), sinusitis (infection of the sinuses), community-acquired pneumonia, gonorrhoea (sexually transmitted disease), anorectal infections in women, skin, and urinary tract infections. Bacterial infections are caused due to the multiplication of harmful bacteria inside or on the body.
Tocef CV 50 mg/31.5 mg Tablet DT is a combination of two antibiotics, namely: Cefpodoxime proxetil (cephalosporin antibiotic) and Clavulanic acid (beta-lactamase inhibitor). Cefpodoxime proxetil works by preventing the formation of bacterial cell covering, which is necessary for their survival. Thereby, kills the bacteria. Clavulanic acid works by decreasing bacterial resistance and enhancing the activity of Cefpodoxime proxetil against the bacteria. Together, Tocef CV 50 mg/31.5 mg Tablet DT helps to treat bacterial infections.

Tocef CV 50 mg/31.5 mg Tablet DT should not be given to patients with rare hereditary problems of galactose intolerance (the Lapp lactase deficiency or glucose-galactose malabsorption). Consult your doctor before taking Tocef CV 50 mg/31.5 mg Tablet DT if you have colitis (colon inflammation), if you are pregnant or planning for pregnancy. Avoid taking Tocef CV 50 mg/31.5 mg Tablet DT if you are breastfeeding, as it may pass into breast milk. Tocef CV 50 mg/31.5 mg Tablet DT may cause Clostridium difficile-associated diarrhoea (CDAD). Treatment with antibiotics alters the normal flora leading to overgrowth of Clostridium difficile; this causes diarrhoea. Drink lots of fluids and eat non-spicy food if you experience diarrhoea. If you find blood in stools (tarry stools) or if you experience prolonged diarrhoea with abdominal pain, stop taking Tocef CV 50 mg/31.5 mg Tablet DT and consult your doctor. Do not take anti-diarrheal medicine on your own.
Do not stop taking Tocef CV 50 mg/31.5 mg Tablet DT despite symptomatic relief. To treat your condition effectually continue taking Tocef CV 50 mg/31.5 mg Tablet DT for as long as it has been prescribed for you. Talk to your doctor if you experience any difficulty while taking Tocef CV 50 mg/31.5 mg Tablet DT.
Do not take Tocef CV 50 mg/31.5 mg Tablet DT on your own, as self-medication may lead to antibiotic resistance in which antibiotics fail to act against specific bacterial infections.
