About Tricaine MPS Gel
Tricaine MPS Gel belongs to a group of medicines called antacids used to treat acidity, heartburn, indigestion, gastritis (inflammation of the stomach), stomach ulcers, and bloating. The abdomen is usually protected from acid by a mucous layer. In some cases, due to excess acid production, the mucous layer gets eroded, which leads to complications like acidity and heartburn. Bloating occurs when the abdomen is filled with gas or air.
Tricaine MPS Gel contains Aluminium hydroxide, Magnesium hydroxide, Oxethazaine, and Simethicone. Aluminium hydroxide and magnesium hydroxide work by neutralising excess stomach acid. Oxethazaine exerts a numbing effect, thereby providing relief from pain due to ulcers or acidic injury in the stomach. Simethicone works by decreasing the surface tension of gas bubbles, thereby facilitating the expulsion of gas through flatus or belching (burping). It also prevents the accumulation and formation of gas in the digestive tract. Together, Tricaine MPS Gel provides relief from acidity.
You are advised to take Tricaine MPS Gel for as long as your doctor has prescribed it for you, depending on your medical condition. In some cases, you may experience certain common side effects such as constipation and diarrhoea. Most of these side effects do not require medical attention and will resolve gradually over time. However, you are advised to talk to your doctor if you experience these side effects persistently.
Consult your doctor if you are pregnant or breastfeeding. Tricaine MPS Gel is not recommended for children as safety has not been established. Avoid consuming alcohol along with Tricaine MPS Gel as it could lead to increased acidity. Talk to your doctor if your condition does not improve despite taking Tricaine MPS Gel for 2 weeks. Inform your doctor regarding other prescription, non-prescription and herbal medicines you are taking to prevent any side effects/interactions.

Disease/Condition Glossary
The stomach is usually protected from acid by a mucous layer. In some cases, due to excess acid production, the mucous layer gets eroded, which leads to complications like acidity. Due to this, acid frequently flows back into the food pipe (oesophagus). This backflow (acid reflux) irritates the food pipe and causes heartburn. Symptoms include heartburn, sour or bitter taste in the mouth, and difficulty swallowing. Indigestion is the feeling of fullness. It occurs due to slow gastric emptying. Symptoms include stomach pain, bloating, heartburn, nausea and vomiting. Bloating occurs when the abdomen is filled with gas or air. Flatulence occurs when gas collects inside the digestive system.
