Trioxen Tablet 10's belongs to a class of medicines called photosensitizers. It is used along with ultraviolet light for the treatment of vitiligo. Vitiligo is a skin condition in which the skin loses colour (melanocytes). This can result in discoloured patches in different areas of the body, including the skin, hair, and mucous membranes.
Trioxen Tablet 10's contains “trioxsalen”, which is a photosensitive medication used along with UV-A rays. It works by activating certain skin cells (melanocytes) and helps to re-pigment the discoloured and white patches.
Trioxen Tablet 10's should be taken as advised by your physician. The dose and course of this medicine will be decided by your doctor based on your health condition. Trioxen Tablet 10's may cause certain common side effects like erythema (skin redness), blisters on the skin, edema (swelling), and itching. These side effects resolve on their own. However, if it persists, stop using Trioxen Tablet 10's and consult your physician.
Trioxen Tablet 10's should not be taken if you are allergic to it. Inform to your physician if you are using any medicines other than Trioxen Tablet 10's and if you are pregnant/breastfeeding. Drug-Drug Interactions: Trioxen Tablet 10's may interact with antibiotics (tetracyclines), anti-fungal (griseofulvin), anti-phsycotics (phenothiazines), amino acid -derivatives (amino-levulinic acid), psoralens (methoxsalen).
Drug-Food Interactions: Avoid eating foods like eating limes, figs, parsley, parsnips, mustard, carrots and celery.
Drug-Disease Interactions: Trioxen Tablet 10's should not be given to people with porphyria, heart disease, liver disease, stomach problems, cataracts, skin cancers and lupus erythematosus.
Vitiligo: Vitiligo is an auto-immune disease that causes loss of skin colour in patches. The discoloured areas usually get bigger with time. This condition can affect the skin on any part of the body. It can also affect the hair and the inside of the mouth. Symptoms include patchy loss of skin colour ( which usually first appears on the hands, face, and areas around body openings and the genitals), premature whitening or greying of the hair (on your scalp, eyelashes, eyebrows or beard), loss of colour in the tissues that line the inside of your mouth and nose (mucous membranes). Causes of vitiligo are family history (heredity) and a trigger event such as stress, severe sunburn or skin trauma.
