Uses:
Epilepsy/seizures, Trigeminal neuralgia
Medicinal Benefits:
Carbazep 400mg Tablet CR belongs to a group of medicines called anti-convulsants or anti-epileptics used to treat epilepsy and trigeminal neuralgia (face nerve pain). Carbazep 400mg Tablet CR works by reducing the electrical impulses and subsequent firing of the nerve impulses that cause fits. Carbazep 400mg Tablet CR decreases the excessive and abnormal nerve activity in the brain, thereby helping in controlling seizures. Carbazep 400mg Tablet CR is also used to relieve nerve pain associated with trigeminal neuralgia. People with glossopharyngeal neuralgia may also experience benefit with Carbazep 400mg Tablet CR. Carbazep 400mg Tablet CR is not associated with any psychological or physical dependence, and there is no potential for abuse.
Carbazep 400mg Tablet CR decreases the brain's excessive and abnormal nerve activity by blocking sodium currents in your brain and body. This reduces abnormal electrical activity between your nerve cells.
Do not discontinue Carbazep 400mg Tablet CR without consulting your doctor. To treat your condition effectually continue taking Carbazep 400mg Tablet CR for as long as prescribed. Do not be reluctant to speak with your doctor if you feel any difficulty while taking Carbazep 400mg Tablet CR; your doctor will reduce the dose gradually to avoid worsening of seizures.
Carbazep 400mg Tablet CR may affect the way hormone contraceptives work in your body. This may cause spotting or breakthrough bleeding. Carbazep 400mg Tablet CR may increase the risk of pregnancy as it makes the contraceptive less effective. Talk to your doctor, he/she will discuss the most suitable type of contraception while taking Carbazep 400mg Tablet CR to avoid pregnancy.
Carbazep 400mg Tablet CR may cause weight gain due to an increase in appetite. Maintain a healthy weight by following a healthy diet and exercising regularly.
Use an effective contraception method during the treatment with Carbazep 400mg Tablet CR and 2 weeks after the last dose. Avoid getting pregnant while taking Carbazep 400mg Tablet CR as it could lead to serious congenital disabilities. Do not stop taking Carbazep 400mg Tablet CR without consulting your doctor.
Carbazep 400mg Tablet CR may cause hyponatremia (low sodium levels in the blood). This could lead to confusion, reduced concentration, vision problems, nausea, vomiting or worsening of seizures. Regular monitoring of sodium levels is advised while taking Carbazep 400mg Tablet CR. Consult your doctor if you experience these symptoms.
Dry mouth could be a side-effect of Carbazep 400mg Tablet CR. Limiting caffeine intake, avoiding smoking and mouthwashes containing alcohol, drinking water regularly, and chewing sugar-free gum/candy might stimulate saliva and prevent drying of the mouth.
