It belongs to the protease inhibitor class of drugs that works by activating and inhibiting serine proteases, including trypsin, chymotrypsin, kallikrein, plasmin, granulocyte elastase, cathepsin, thrombin, and factors IXa, Xa, XIa, and XlIa.
