Ulinastatin
About Ulinastatin
Ulinastatin belongs to the class of medicine called protease inhibitors. It is used in the treatment of severe sepsis (a condition triggered by an extreme response of the immune system to infections) and acute pancreatitis (inflammation of the pancreas).
Ulinastatin contains Ulinastatin as an active ingredient, which belongs to the protease inhibitor class of drugs. It works by inhibiting serine proteases, including trypsin, chymotrypsin, kallikrein, plasmin, thrombin, factors IXa, Xa, XIa, and XlIa. This helps prevent organ dysfunction.
Ulinastatin may cause certain side effects, such as nausea, vomiting, headache, skin rash, itching, diarrhoea, allergic reactions and pain at the site of injection. These side effects do not require medical attention and gradually resolve over time. A trained healthcare professional will administer it. Do not self-administer.
Ulinastatin should be avoided if you are allergic to it or any other components present in it. Before administration, inform your doctor if you have liver/kidney disease, cardiac disorders, bleeding disorders or respiratory conditions. It is unknown whether Ulinastatin is suitable for use in pregnant and breastfeeding mothers. Hence, inform your doctor if you are pregnant, are planning to become pregnant or are breastfeeding beforehand.

Sepsis: It is a life-threatening illness caused by the body's response to an infection. Sepsis occurs when chemicals released in the blood to fight infection trigger inflammation in the body. This may lead to a cascade of changes that damage multiple organ systems, leading them to fail, sometimes even resulting in death. Symptoms may include low blood pressure, chills, dizziness, fatigue, fever, flushing, low body temperature, shivering, fast breathing, shortness of breath, etc.
