About Aprifast 150 mg Injection

Aprifast 150 mg Injection belongs to a class of drugs called anti-emetics. It is used in combination with other medicines to prevent nausea and vomiting caused by chemotherapy (anti-cancer medicines). Nausea is a feeling of uneasiness in the stomach that often comes before vomiting. On the other hand, vomiting is the forcible voluntary or involuntary emptying of stomach contents through the mouth.

Aprifast 150 mg Injection contains Fosaprepitant, a neurokinin 1 (NK1) receptor antagonist which is converted to aprepitant in the body. It works by blocking neurokinin 1 receptors (causes a feeling of sickness) present in the vomiting centre in the brain. Thus, it helps prevent nausea and vomiting.

Aprifast 150 mg Injection will be administered by a healthcare professional; do not self-administer. In some cases, Aprifast 150 mg Injection may cause common side effects such as headache, hiccups, tiredness, loss of appetite, indigestion, and constipation. Most of these side effects do not require medical attention and gradually resolve over time. However, if the side effects persist or worsen, consult your doctor immediately.

If you are allergic to Fosaprepitant or other medicines, please tell your doctor. If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, please inform your doctor before receiving Aprifast 150 mg Injection. Drive only if you are alert after receiving Aprifast 150 mg Injection. If you are taking other prescription or non-prescription medicines, inform your doctor before receiving Aprifast 150 mg Injection.

FOSAPREPITANT-150MGAlcoholic liver disease
Moderate
How does the disease interact with Aprifast 150 mg Injection:
The liver is primarily responsible for Aprifast 150 mg Injection metabolism. Aprifast 150 mg Injection was well tolerated in investigations of patients with mild to moderate hepatic impairment (Child-Pugh score 5 to 9), and no clinically significant changes in its pharmacokinetics were seen. As a result, there is no need to change the dosage of Aprifast 150 mg Injection in this patient population. Aprifast 150 mg Injection should be used with caution in patients with severe hepatic impairment (Child-Pugh score > 9), as there is no clinical or pharmacokinetic data in this population.

How to manage the interaction:
Aprifast 150 mg Injection is metabolized by the liver, hence it is usually not recommended in patients with mild to moderate liver disease as it can increase the Aprifast 150 mg Injection level in the body. Increased levels can increase the risk and severity of Aprifast 150 mg Injection side effects. However, you can take it when advised by your doctor. If you experience headache, fatigue, low appetite, constipation, diarrhea, nausea, and hiccups contact your doctor immediately. Do not discontinue any medications without first consulting your doctor.

Disease/Condition Glossary

Nausea and vomiting: Nausea is an uneasiness in the stomach that usually precedes vomiting. Vomiting, on the other hand, is a normal bodily response in which a person desires to evacuate stomach contents from the mouth aggressively. In brief, nausea and vomiting are symptoms of a variety of disorders, including infections, motion sickness, an early stage of pregnancy, and gastroparesis (slow stomach emptying). Vomiting is controlled by a receptor in the brain known as the chemoreceptor trigger zone (CTZ). After chemotherapy and radiation therapy, nausea and vomiting are common side effects. It can also arise as a side effect of an operation or surgery. Controlling vomiting and nausea in cancer patients is critical for conducting daily tasks. It can cause mental abnormalities, lack of appetite, malnutrition, and dehydration if not managed.
