Caldox Nasal Spray 60 MDI belongs to groups of medications called hypocalcemic agents, primarily indicated for the treatment of postmenopausal osteoporosis in women more than five years postmenopause when alternative therapies are unsuitable. Post-menopausal osteoporosis is a medical condition that causes thinning and weakening of the bones during/after a menopausal period.

Caldox Nasal Spray 60 MDI contains Calcitonin, a human hormone that prevents bone breakdown and increases bone density (thickness). Thus it helps to treat osteoporosis in postmenopausal women.

Use Caldox Nasal Spray 60 MDI as prescribed by the doctor. Caldox Nasal Spray 60 MDI may cause certain side effects such as hypocalcemia, runny nose, nosebleed, sinus pain, application site reactions such as rhinitis (stuffy nose), epistaxis (nose bleeds) and other nasal symptoms, back pain, arthralgia (Joint pain) and headache. Most of these side effects do not require medical attention and gradually resolve over time. However, if these side effects persist longer, please consult your doctor.

Caldox Nasal Spray 60 MDI contains Calcitonin, a calcitonin receptor agonist that prevents the loss of bones that happens after menopause and helps to rebuild bones. Calcitonin is a hormone that the C-cells in the thyroid gland produce and release. It opposes the parathyroid hormone's action, helping regulate the blood’s calcium and phosphate levels. Caldox Nasal Spray 60 MDI works by suppressing the activity of the osteoclasts (cells that break down bone). When the osteoclasts break down bone tissue, the calcium enters the bloodstream. Caldox Nasal Spray 60 MDI lessens the amount of calcium in the blood by preventing the breakdown of bone. Thereby, Caldox Nasal Spray 60 MDI strengthens the bones and minimizes the risk of fractures. Caldox Nasal Spray 60 MDI also seems to decrease the amount of calcium the kidneys can re-absorb, lowering calcium levels further.

• Consume calcium-rich foods like milk, yoghurt, cheese, green leafy vegetables, fish with bones such as salmon, sardines, calcium-fortified cereals and orange juice.
• Exposure to sunlight helps synthesise vitamin D, essential for strong bones and muscles.
• Eating vitamin-D-rich foods such as egg yolks, salmon, oily fish like sardines, and mackerel.
• Indulging in regular exercise to prevent bone loss. Activities include brisk walking, dancing, jogging, and strength training exercises like lifting weights and using weight machines or elastic bands.
• Engaging in activities for stress relief, such as meditation and yoga.
• Preserving a healthy weight eases pressure on the bones.
• Taking medications if one is at risk for osteoporosis.
• Quitting smoking and limiting alcohol consumption.
