Cotum-500 CV Tablet belongs to the group of medicines called antibiotics used to treat various bacterial infections such as pharyngitis/tonsillitis (throat infections), otitis media (ear infections), sinusitis (infection of the sinuses), gonorrhoea (sexually transmitted disease), Lyme disease, septicaemia (bloodstream infection), meningitis (inflammation of the brain and spinal cord), lower respiratory tract, skin, urinary tract, bone, and joint infections. 

Cotum-500 CV Tablet is a combination of two antibiotics, namely: Cefuroxime (cephalosporin antibiotic) and Clavulanic acid (beta-lactamase inhibitor). Cefuroxime works by preventing the formation of bacterial cell covering, which is necessary for their survival. Thereby, kills the bacteria. Clavulanic acid works by decreasing bacterial resistance and enhancing the activity of cefuroxime against the bacteria. Together, Cotum-500 CV Tablet helps to treat bacterial infections.

Take Cotum-500 CV Tablet with or without food. The dose and duration of Cotum-500 CV Tablet can vary depending upon your condition and severity of the infection. In some cases, you may experience certain common side-effects such as diarrhoea, abdominal pain, nausea, and vomiting. Most of these side-effects do not require medical attention and will resolve gradually over time. However, you are advised to talk to your doctor if you experience these side-effects persistently.

Before starting Cotum-500 CV Tablet, please inform your doctor if you have any allergy (against any antibiotic), kidney or liver problems. Do not take Cotum-500 CV Tablet on your own as self-medication may lead to antibiotic-resistance in which antibiotics fail to act against specific bacterial infections. Consult your doctor before taking Cotum-500 CV Tablet if you are pregnant or planning for pregnancy. Avoid taking Cotum-500 CV Tablet if you are breastfeeding as Cotum-500 CV Tablet may pass into breast milk. Avoid alcohol consumption while taking Cotum-500 CV Tablet to prevent unpleasant side-effects.

Avoid taking Cotum-500 CV Tablet if you are breastfeeding as Cotum-500 CV Tablet may pass into breast milk. Avoid alcohol consumption while taking Cotum-500 CV Tablet to prevent unpleasant side-effects. 

• Eat fibre rich food like whole grains, beans, lentils, berries, broccoli, peas and bananas.
• Avoid foods rich in calcium, grapefruit and grapefruit juice as they might hinder the absorption of antibiotics.
• Avoid consumption of alcohol to treat your condition effectively.
• Avoid usage of tobacco.
• Antibiotics can alter the useful bacteria in the stomach, which help indigestion. Therefore, you are advised to take foods rich in probiotics such as yoghurt/curd, kefir, sauerkraut, tempeh, kimchi, miso, kombucha, buttermilk, natto and cheese.
