Elmovel TF Gel 10 gm is a dermatological medication primarily used to treat fungal skin infections. It is used to treat various skin conditions like eczema, psoriasis, ringworm, athlete's foot, jock itch, dermatitis, and tinea versicolor (lightening or darkening of the skin of the neck, chest, arms, or legs). Fungal infection occurs when a fungus invades and affects the tissue on the skin.
Elmovel TF Gel 10 gm is a combination of two drugs, namely: Mometasone furoate (corticosteroid) and Terbinafine hydrochloride (antifungal). Mometasone furoate blocks the production of prostaglandins (chemical messengers) that make the affected area red, swollen, and itchy. Terbinafine hydrochloride works by inhibiting the synthesis of ergosterol in the fungal cell membrane (a compound present in the fungi to maintain the cell integrity) and resulting in fungal cell death.
Elmovel TF Gel 10 gm is for topical (for skin) use only. Your doctor will advise the appropriate dose that suits your infection. Elmovel TF Gel 10 gm may cause common side effects like skin peeling, itching, irritation, dryness, redness, and burning sensation at the application site. These side effects usually do not require medical attention and fade away with time. However, if any of the side effects persist or worsen, please consult a doctor.
Let your doctor know if you are allergic to any of the contents in Elmovel TF Gel 10 gm. If you are using any other prescription, non-prescription drugs, herbal, and vitamin supplements, please inform your doctor before using Elmovel TF Gel 10 gm. Terbinafine hydrochloride is an antifungal drug that treats fungal infections by inhibiting the synthesis of ergosterol in the fungal cell membrane (a compound present in the fungi to maintain cell integrity) and thus resulting in fungal cell death.
Inform your doctor if you have chickenpox or measles. Topical use of corticosteroids may sometimes cause systemic immunosuppression (decreased ability to fight infections) which further worsens the infections, hence Elmovel TF Gel 10 gm should be used with caution in patients with active infections. Pregnant and breastfeeding mothers should consult the doctor before starting Elmovel TF Gel 10 gm.
