Tercan-M Gel is a dermatological medication primarily used to treat fungal skin infections. It is used to treat various skin conditions like eczema, psoriasis, ringworm, athlete's foot, jock itch, dermatitis, and tinea versicolor (lightening or darkening of the skin of the neck, chest, arms, or legs). Fungal infection occurs when a fungus invades and affects the tissue on the skin. 

Tercan-M Gel is a combination of two drugs, namely: Mometasone furoate (corticosteroid) and Terbinafine hydrochloride (antifungal). Mometasone furoate blocks the production of prostaglandins (chemical messengers) that make the affected area red, swollen, and itchy. Terbinafine hydrochloride works by inhibiting the synthesis of ergosterol in the fungal cell membrane (a compound present in the fungi to maintain the cell integrity) and resulting in fungal cell death.

Tercan-M Gel is for topical (for skin) use only. Your doctor will advise the appropriate dose that suits your infection. Tercan-M Gel may cause common side effects like skin peeling, itching, irritation, dryness, redness, and burning sensation at the application site. These side effects usually do not require medical attention and fade away with time. However, if any of the side effects persist or worsen, please consult a doctor.

Let your doctor know if you are allergic to any of the contents in Tercan-M Gel. If you are using any other prescription, non-prescription drugs, herbal, and vitamin supplements, please inform your doctor before using Tercan-M Gel. Do not use Tercan-M Gel on sensitive areas like nostrils, ears, lips, or genitals. Avoid dressing the infected areas after applying Tercan-M Gel unless the doctor advised you to do so. Pregnant and breastfeeding mothers should consult the doctor before starting Tercan-M Gel. Tercan-M Gel is not approved for use in children below 12 years of age.

Inform your doctor if you have chickenpox or measles. Topical use of corticosteroids may sometimes cause systemic immunosuppression (decreased ability to fight infections) which further worsens the infections, hence Tercan-M Gel should be used with caution in patients with active infections.  Pregnant and breastfeeding mothers should consult the doctor before starting Tercan-M Gel. 

• Use mild soap while taking baths and prefer warm baths.
• Regularly change your socks and wash your feet. Avoid shoes that make your feet sweaty and hot.
• Do not walk barefoot at places like gym showers to prevent infections.
• Do not scratch the affected area of the skin as it can spread the infection to other body parts.
• Avoid sharing towels, combs, bedsheets, shoes, or socks with others.
• Wash your bed sheets and towels regularly.
• Avoid or limit the intake of alcohol and caffeine.
• Manage stress, eat healthily, drink plenty of water, exercise regularly, and get plenty of sleep.

• It is advised to reach out to your doctor if the symptoms of skin infection persist or worsen after two weeks of treatment with Tercan-M Gel.
• Avoid contact with the nose, mouth, or eyes. In case it comes in contact with these areas accidentally, rinse with water thoroughly.

Fungal infection: A fungal infection (also called mycosis) is a skin disease caused by a fungus when it invades the tissue.

Athlete's foot: It is a fungal infection between the toes due to sweating.

Jock itch: It is a fungal infection in the skin of the genitals, inner thighs, and buttocks.

Eczema: It is a condition in which skin patches become inflamed, itchy, cracked, and rough. 

Psoriasis: It is a skin disorder in which skin cells multiply and form bumpy (uneven) red patches covered with white scales. 

Tinea versicolor: It is a fungal infection that causes lightening or darkening of the skin of the neck, chest, arms, or legs.
