About Lom 0.3% Eye Drop

Lom 0.3% Eye Drop belongs to a group of antibiotic medicines called fluoroquinolones for treating bacterial eye infections such as bacterial conjunctivitis, blepharoconjunctivitis, and blepharitis. Additionally, it is also used to treat corneal ulcers and keratitis.

Lom 0.3% Eye Drop contains Lomefloxacin, that works by interfering with the bacterial DNA processes which are necessary for their survival. Thereby, Lom 0.3% Eye Drop kills the bacteria and helps treat bacterial infection.

In some cases, Lom 0.3% Eye Drop may cause side effects like local irritation or a slight and transient burning sensation immediately after using eye drops. Most of these side effects do not require medical attention and will resolve gradually over time. However, you are advised to talk to the doctor if the side effects persist or worsen.

Do not use Lom 0.3% Eye Drop if you are allergic to any of its components. Consult the doctor if you are pregnant or breastfeeding. Avoid touching the tip of the dropper as it may contaminate the contents. Uses of Lom 0.3% Eye Drop

Bacterial eye infections- conjunctivitis, blepharoconjunctivitis (inflammation of eyelid margin and conjunctiva), blepharitis (inflammation of eyelids), corneal ulcers and keratitis (inflammation of the cornea).

Directions for Use

Lie down and tilt your head backwards. Pull your lower eyelid gently with your index finger to form a pocket. Instil the number of drops advised by the doctor into the pocket of the lower eyelid. Close your eyes for 1-2 minutes.

Lom 0.3% Eye Drop contains Lomefloxacin, a difluorinated quinolone derivative, is a bacterial gyrase inhibitor used to treat bacterial eye infections such as bacterial conjunctivitis, blepharoconjunctivitis, and blepharitis occurring due to lomefloxacin susceptible organisms. Additionally, it is also used to treat staphylococcus aureus-induced corneal ulcers. Lom 0.3% Eye Drop works by interfering with the bacterial DNA processes like initiation, elongation, and termination phases of replication, transcription, and repair. Thereby, Lom 0.3% Eye Drop kills the bacteria and helps treat bacterial infection. It is effective against gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria.

Drug Warnings

Do not use Lom 0.3% Eye Drop if you are allergic to any of its components. Seek medical advice from the doctor before using Lom 0.3% Eye Drop if you are pregnant or breastfeeding. To avoid reduction of efficacy, eye preparations containing heavy metals such as zinc and copper should not be used within 15 minutes of using Lom 0.3% Eye Drop. Also, bacteriostatic ophthalmic antibiotics should not be used concomitantly (simultaneously) with Lom 0.3% Eye Drop. Let the doctor know if you are using any other eye medications.

Diet & Lifestyle Advise

  • Wash your hands regularly. Avoid touching the eyes with dirty hands. 
  • Avoid rubbing the eyes.
  • Avoid sharing eye makeup such as eyeliner, mascara or kohl.
  • Always use clean towels or tissues to wipe your eyes and face.
  • Regularly wash and change the pillowcases.
  • If you wear contact lens: Clean and replace contact lens more often. Never share contact lens. Remember to wash your hands before inserting and after removing the contact lens. 
  • Avoid staring at the digital screens for longer durations. Rest your eyes for every 20 minutes.
  • Blink regularly as it helps in the spread of hydrating substances such as mucus and tears across the eyes.

Remove contact lenses before using Lom 0.3% Eye Drop and re-insert them 15 minutes after using Lom 0.3% Eye Drop. However, using spectacles and avoiding wearing contact lenses is recommended until the infection is cleared.

Lom 0.3% Eye Drop can be used with other eye medications if prescribed by the doctor. Maintain a gap of at least 5 minutes between Lom 0.3% Eye Drop and other eye medications to avoid washing out the medicine.

Do not use Lom 0.3% Eye Drop for longer durations unless prescribed by the doctor, as long-term treatment with antibiotics may support the growth of non-susceptible bacteria or enhance the development of secondary infections.

  • Intensive exposure to sunlight or UV radiation should be avoided during treatment with Lom 0.3% Eye Drop.
