Lomefloxacin
About Lomefloxacin
Lomefloxacin belongs to the group of antibiotic medicines called fluoroquinolones indicated in the treatment of mild to moderate bacterial infections such as urinary tract infections and bronchitis. Bacterial infections are caused due to the multiplication of harmful bacteria inside or on the body.
Lomefloxacin contains Lomefloxacin, that works by interfering with the activity of topoisomerase IV and DNA gyrase, which are necessary for the transcription and replication of bacterial DNA. Thereby, Lomefloxacin fights bacteria in the body and treats bacterial infection.
In some cases, Lomefloxacin may cause side effects such as diarrhoea, nausea, vomiting, drowsiness, and headache. Most of these side effects do not require medical attention and will resolve gradually over time. However, you are advised to talk to the doctor if any of the side effects persist or worsen.
Consult the doctor if you are pregnant or breastfeeding. Lomefloxacin is not recommended for children below 18 years as it might interfere with bone development. Inform your doctor about all the medicines you are taking and your health condition to rule out any unpleasant side effects/interactions.

FAQs
Lomefloxacin works by interfering with the activity of enzymes which are necessary for bacterial DNA replication. Thereby, it helps treat bacterial infections.
Your symptoms may begin to improve before the infection is completely treated. Therefore, even if you begin to feel better, continue taking Lomefloxacin for as long as your doctor has prescribed it.
Lomefloxacin may make the skin more sensitive to sunlight and might result in severe sunburn. Therefore, avoid exposure to both direct and indirect sunlight during treatment with Lomefloxacin and for a few days after the treatment ends. Consult the doctor if you experience severe burning, redness, swelling, blistering, or itching.
Consult the doctor before taking vitamin/mineral supplements, as they might decrease the effects of lomefloxacin if taken at the same time. Maintaining a gap of 2 hours between Lomefloxacin and vitamin/mineral supplements is advised.
