About P-Worm Syrup

 P-Worm Syrup belongs to a group of antiparasitic drugs called 'anthelmintic' used to treat parasites worm infections like neurocysticercosis (infection caused by pork tapeworm) and cystic hydatid disease (infection caused by dog tapeworm). Additionally, P-Worm Syrup is also used to treat infections caused by roundworms, hookworms, threadworms, whipworms, pinworms, flukes, and other parasites. 

P-Worm Syrup contains ‘Albendazole’, which works by inhibiting tubulin polymerisation. This causes metabolic disruption and energy depletion in the parasite, which leads to its immobilisation. Thereby, P-Worm Syrup kills the susceptible helminth and treats the infection. 

Take P-Worm Syrup as prescribed. You are advised to take P-Worm Syrup for as long as your doctor has prescribed it for you, depending on your medical condition. You may experience certain common side effects, such as stomach pain, nausea, vomiting, headache, and dizziness in some cases. Most of these side effects do not require medical attention and will resolve gradually over time. However, you are advised to talk to your doctor if you experience these side effects persistently.

P-Worm Syrup might increase the chances of getting an infection; maintain proper hygiene, and try to stay away from people with infections, flu or colds. Consult your doctor if you notice unusual bleeding or bruising, as you may bleed or bruise easily while taking P-Worm Syrup. Do not take P-Worm Syrup if you are allergic to any of its contents. P-Worm Syrup may cause bone marrow suppression, aplastic anaemia, and agranulocytosis. Inform your doctor if you have/had liver disease; if you have any surgery, including dental surgery. Consult your doctor immediately if you experience seizures, vomiting, headache, extreme tiredness, or behaviour changes while taking P-Worm Syrup. Regular blood cell count and liver function monitoring is advised during treatment with P-Worm Syrup. P-Worm Syrup causes metabolic disruption and energy depletion in the parasite, which leads to its immobilisation. Thereby, P-Worm Syrup kills the susceptible helminth and treats the infection.

For neurocysticercosis, P-Worm Syrup is usually prescribed for 8-30 days. For cystic hydatid disease, P-Worm Syrup is usually prescribed for 28 days, followed by a 14 day break, and repeated for a total of 3 cycles.

Do not discontinue P-Worm Syrup without consulting your doctor. To treat your condition effectually continue taking P-Worm Syrup for as long as prescribed. Do not be reluctant to speak with your doctor if you feel any difficulty while taking P-Worm Syrup.

You are recommended to avoid planning for pregnancy while taking P-Worm Syrup as it may cause foetal harm. A pregnancy test should be done before starting the treatment with P-Worm Syrup, and women must use effective birth-control while taking P-Worm Syrup and for at least 1month after cessation of treatment.

Regular monitoring of blood count at the beginning of each cycle therapy and for every 2weeks while taking P-Worm Syrup is advised for all patients. Treatment with P-Worm Syrup should be discontinued if a significant decrease in blood cell count is observed.

Treatment with P-Worm Syrup has been associated with mild to moderate elevations of liver enzymes. These elevations generally return to normal upon discontinuation of P-Worm Syrup. Liver function tests should be performed before each treatment cycle and for every 2weeks during the treatment. Treatment with P-Worm Syrup should be discontinued if the liver enzymes exceed twice the upper limit of normal.

P-Worm Syrup might increase the chances of getting an infection. Maintain proper hygiene and try to stay away from people with infections, flu or cold.
