About PEPSIGARD P GEL 100ML

PEPSIGARD P GEL 100ML belongs to a class of medication called gastrointestinal agents used to treat duodenal ulcers, nausea, and vomiting. Duodenal ulcer is a peptic ulcer that develops in the duodenum (first part of the small intestine) due to erosion of the stomach's protective lining. Nausea is a feeling of uneasiness in the stomach that often comes before vomiting. On the other hand, vomiting is the forcible voluntary or involuntary emptying of stomach contents through the mouth.

PEPSIGARD P GEL 100ML is a combination of two drugs: Sucralfate (gastrointestinal protectant) and Domperidone (antinausea agent). Sucralfate belongs to the protectants class which forms a protective layer over the ulcer and protects the stomach from an ulcer due to excess stomach acid, thereby healing it. Domperidone belongs to the dopamine antagonist class that works by blocking dopamine receptors that stimulate the vomiting center (chemoreceptor trigger zone – CTZ) located in the brain. Together they prevent ulcers, nausea, and vomiting.

Take PEPSIGARD P GEL 100ML as prescribed by your doctor. You are advised to take PEPSIGARD P GEL 100ML for as long as your doctor has prescribed it for you based on your medical condition. Avoid alcohol consumption as it may increase adverse effects or irritate the stomach lining. Disease/Condition Glossary

Gastric ulcer: Peptic ulcers are sores that develop on the stomach and intestine lining due to erosion of the stomach's protective lining. Symptoms include nausea, changes in appetite, bloody or dark stools, unexplained weight loss, vomiting, and indigestion. Duodenal ulcer is a type of peptic ulcer that develops in the duodenum (the first part of the small intestine).

Nausea and vomiting: Nausea is a feeling of uneasiness in the stomach that often comes before vomiting. On the other hand, vomiting is the forcible voluntary or involuntary emptying of stomach contents through the mouth. In short nausea and vomiting are not diseases but are symptoms of many conditions like infections, motion sickness, an early stage of pregnancy, and gastroparesis (slow stomach emptying). There is a receptor located in our brain known as the chemoreceptor zone (CTZ) that controls vomiting.
