About Rateotret 20 Capsule

Rateotret 20 Capsule belongs to a class of drugs called retinoids (a synthetic form of vitamin A) primarily used to treat a severe form of acne known as nodular acne that cannot be cleared by any other treatments, including antibiotics. Nodular acne is severe acne that occurs due to excessive production of oil in the skin cells, causing swollen, red and tender lumps in the skin. Acne nodules are larger in size than typical pimples.

Rateotret 20 Capsule contains 'isotretinoin', a form of vitamin A that works by reducing sebum (skin's natural oil) production on the skin's surface by decreasing the activity and size of sebaceous glands. Thereby unblocks pores and kills acne-causing bacteria.

Take Rateotret 20 Capsule as prescribed. Your doctor will advise you on how often you need to take Rateotret 20 Capsule based on your medical condition. Some people may experience chapped lips, dryness of skin, eyes, nose, or lips. Most of these side effects of Rateotret 20 Capsule do not require medical attention and gradually resolve over time. However, if the side effects persist or worsen, please consult your doctor.

If you are known to be allergic to Rateotret 20 Capsule or any other medicines, please tell your doctor. Do not take Rateotret 20 Capsule if you are pregnant or breastfeeding as it may cause adverse effects on the baby. If you have depression or any suicidal thoughts while taking Rateotret 20 Capsule or after stopping treatment with Rateotret 20 Capsule , please consult a doctor. Avoid sun exposure while using Rateotret 20 Capsule as it may make the skin more sensitive to sunlight and cause sunburn. Wear protective clothing and use sunscreen while going out to protect your skin from sunburn.

Managing Medication-Triggered Epistaxis (Nosebleed): A Step-by-Step Guide:
  • If you experience nosebleeds or unusual bleeding after taking medication, seek medical attention right away and schedule an appointment to discuss your symptoms with your doctor.
  • Your doctor may adjust your treatment plan by changing the dosage, switching to a different medication, or stopping the medication.
  • If your doctor advises, take steps to manage bleeding and promote healing, such as applying pressure, using saline nasal sprays, or applying a cold compress, using humidifiers, avoiding blowing or picking your nose, and applying petroleum jelly to the nostrils.
  • Schedule follow-up appointments with your doctor to monitor progress, adjust treatment plans, and prevent future episodes.
  • Managing a low platelet count (thrombocytopenia) caused by medication usage requires a multi-step approach. Here are some steps to help manage the condition:
  • Inform your doctor about your low platelet count and medication usage. They will assess the situation and guide the best course of action.
  • Your doctor may recommend adjusting or stopping the medication that is causing a low platelet count. This could involve switching to alternative medication or reducing the dosage.
  • Monitor your platelet count regularly through blood tests to track any changes. This will help the doctor determine the effectiveness of the treatment plan.
  • If an underlying condition, such as infection or inflammation, contributes to the low platelet count, your doctor will treat it.
  • In some cases, alternative treatments like platelet transfusions or medications that stimulate platelet production may be necessary.
  • Avoid risky activities and certain medications; eat a balanced diet with plenty of water to reduce bleeding risk and boost overall health.
  • If you experience severe bleeding or bruising, seek emergency medical attention immediately.
  • Exercise and a healthy diet can help manage high cholesterol, but consult your doctor about medication if lifestyle changes are not enough.
  • Avoid foods high in cholesterol, saturated fat, and trans fats, such as egg yolks, cheese, fried foods, pastries, ice cream, and red meat.
  • Increase your intake of vegetables, fruits, oats, whole grains, lentils, and beans to boost fibre consumption.
  • Include foods rich in monounsaturated fats, like nuts, avocados, olive oil, and oily fish.
  • Exercise regularly for 30 minutes and maintain a healthy weight.
  • Quit smoking and limit excessive alcohol consumption, as both can negatively impact your cholesterol levels.

Disease/Condition Glossary

Nodular acne: It is severe acne that occurs due to excessive production of oil in the skin cells causing swollen, red and tender lumps in the skin which can be the size of pencil erasers or larger. The sebum inhibits sebaceous glands and stops oil from flowing out freely causing accumulation of sebum under the skin which increases the growth of acne-causing bacteria. Acne nodules are larger in size than typical pimples and affect the deeper layers of skin. Nodular acne can occur on the back, face and the body. If they are left untreated, it may cause permanent scars. The symptoms include long-lasting painful blemishes that feel like hard knots under the skin.
