Smylax Veterinary Suspension belongs to the group of medicines called laxatives used to treat constipation. Constipation refers to infrequent bowel movements in which the stools are often dry, painful, and hard to pass. 

Smylax Veterinary Suspension is a combination of two laxatives (stool softeners), namely: milk of magnesia (osmotic laxative) and liquid paraffin (lubricant). Milk of magnesia works by drawing water into the intestine through osmosis, while liquid paraffin has lubricant properties that help retain water and fat in the stools. Together, they make the stool soft and slippery making it easier to pass.

You can take Smylax Veterinary Suspension with or without food. Take the prescribed dose/quantity by mouth using the measuring cup provided by the pack, shake the bottle well before each use. Depending on your medical condition, you are advised to take Smylax Veterinary Suspension for as long as your doctor has prescribed it for you. Sometimes, you may experience common side effects such as diarrhoea, abdominal discomfort, pain, or cramps. Most of these side effects do not require medical attention and will resolve gradually over time. However, you are advised to talk to your doctor if you experience these side effects persistently.

To treat your condition effectually, continue taking Smylax Veterinary Suspension for as long as your doctor has prescribed. Drink plenty of fluids while taking Smylax Veterinary Suspension to prevent dehydration. Do not take Smylax Veterinary Suspension for more than a week or more than your doctor's advice as it might cause dependency on Smylax Veterinary Suspension for a bowel movement. Talk to your doctor if you notice any sudden changes in bowel habits that persist for over two weeks. Consult your doctor before taking Smylax Veterinary Suspension if you are pregnant or breastfeeding. Smylax Veterinary Suspension should be given with caution, especially when given to children below the age of 12. Your doctor may adjust your dose depending on your age. Drug-Drug Interactions: Smylax Veterinary Suspension may have interaction with various medications, including an antibiotic (tetracycline), diuretics (furosemide), and steroids (prednisolone).

Drug-Disease Interactions: Smylax Veterinary Suspension may interact with intestinal obstruction disorder, appendicitis, intestinal blockage, and bowel inflammation.

• Stay hydrated, and drink enough water and fluids.
• Try maintaining a balanced diet that includes fresh fruits and vegetables.
• Exercise regularly, and stay fit.

• Try making time to empty your bowels whenever the body tells you to.
• Eat fibre-rich foods such as whole-wheat bread, oatmeal, flaxseed, nuts, beans, lentils, fruits (berries, apples, oranges, bananas, pears), vegetables (vegetables, broccoli, spinach, sweet potatoes, avocados).

• Do not use Smylax Veterinary Suspension for more than 7 days without a doctor's advice.
