Smylax Veterinary Suspension belongs to the group of medicines called laxatives used to treat constipation. Constipation refers to infrequent bowel movements in which the stools are often dry, painful, and hard to pass.
Smylax Veterinary Suspension is a combination of two laxatives (stool softeners), namely: milk of magnesia (osmotic laxative) and liquid paraffin (lubricant). Milk of magnesia works by drawing water into the intestine through osmosis, while liquid paraffin has lubricant properties that help retain water and fat in the stools. Together, they make the stool soft and slippery making it easier to pass.
You can take Smylax Veterinary Suspension with or without food. Take the prescribed dose/quantity by mouth using the measuring cup provided by the pack, shake the bottle well before each use. Depending on your medical condition, you are advised to take Smylax Veterinary Suspension for as long as your doctor has prescribed it for you. Sometimes, you may experience common side effects such as diarrhoea, abdominal discomfort, pain, or cramps. Most of these side effects do not require medical attention and will resolve gradually over time. However, you are advised to talk to your doctor if you experience these side effects persistently.

Smylax Veterinary Suspension does not help with weight loss. It does not reduce the absorption of calories or nutrients. Smylax Veterinary Suspension may cause dehydration which feels like weight loss. Drink enough liquids to prevent dehydration.
Diarrhoea might occur if Smylax Veterinary Suspension is taken in larger doses. Drink lots of fluids and eat fibre-rich food if you experience diarrhoea. If you find blood in your stools (tarry stools) or experience excess diarrhoea consult your doctor. Do not take anti-diarrheal medicine on your own.
Overuse or prolonged use of Smylax Veterinary Suspension may cause dehydration. Severe dehydration may cause weakness, tremors, fainting, and blurry vision. Consult your doctor immediately if you experience these symptoms. Drink enough fluids to avoid dehydration.
