About Amrizol-DSR Capsule

Amrizol-DSR Capsule belongs to a group of gastrointestinal agents used to treat gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), Zollinger-Ellison syndrome, and stomach ulcers. The stomach is usually protected from acid by a mucous layer. In some cases, due to excess acid production, the mucous layer gets eroded, which leads to complications like GERD, acidity, peptic ulcers and Zollinger-Ellison syndrome.

Amrizol-DSR Capsule is a combination of two drugs: Esomeprazole (proton pump inhibitor) and Domperidone (a dopamine antagonist). Esomeprazole works by blocking an enzyme called gastric proton pump, which is responsible for the production of acid Domperidone works by increasing the movements and contractions of stomach muscle. Together, Amrizol-DSR Capsule helps in treating acidity-related problems.

You are advised to take Amrizol-DSR Capsule for as long as your doctor has prescribed it for you, depending on your medical condition. In some cases, you may experience certain common side-effects such as dry mouth, stomach pain, diarrhoea, headache, and flatulence. Most of these side-effects do not require medical attention and will resolve gradually over time. However, you are advised to talk to your doctor if you experience these side-effects persistently.

Consult your doctor before taking Amrizol-DSR Capsule if you are pregnant or breastfeeding. Amrizol-DSR Capsule may cause dizziness, so drive only if you are alert. Amrizol-DSR Capsule should not be given to children as safety has not been established. Avoid consuming alcohol and Amrizol-DSR Capsule as it could lead to increased drowsiness and elevate stomach acid production. Keep your doctor informed about your health condition and medicines to rule out any side-effects.

  • Avoid lying down after eating as it causes acid reflux.
  • Avoid tight-fitting clothes as it might increase the pressure on the abdomen leading to acid reflux.
  • Practise relaxation techniques and avoid stress by doing yoga or meditation.

Domperidone works by increasing the movements and contractions of stomach muscles. Together, Amrizol-DSR Capsule helps in treating acidity.

Diarrhoea might be a side-effect of Amrizol-DSR Capsule . Drink enough fluids and eat non-spicy food if you experience diarrhoea. Consult your doctor if you experience excessive diarrhoea or if you find blood in your stools.

Avoid lying down immediately after meals to prevent acid reflux. Raise the head of the bed 10-20cm by putting a pillow so that the head and chest are above the waist. This helps in preventing acid reflux.

Dry mouth could be a side-effect of Amrizol-DSR Capsule . Limiting caffeine intake, avoiding smoking and mouthwashes containing alcohol, drinking water regularly, and chewing sugar-free gum/candy might help stimulate saliva and thereby prevent drying of the mouth.

Amrizol-DSR Capsule contains domperidone which helps in treating nausea and vomiting by increasing the movements and contractions of stomach muscles.

Do not take Amrizol-DSR Capsule for longer durations unless prescribed by the doctor. Consult your doctor if your condition does not improve even after taking Amrizol-DSR Capsule for 14days.

Amrizol-DSR Capsule should not be taken along with HIV medicines such as atazanavir, ritonavir, nelfinavir, and saquinavir as Amrizol-DSR Capsule might affect their absorption. Consult your doctor before taking Amrizol-DSR Capsule with other medicines to avoid unpleasant side-effects.

On long-term treatment, Amrizol-DSR Capsule might increase the risk of bone fracture in the spine, wrist or hip. Inform your doctor if you have osteoporosis or if you are taking corticosteroids, as they can increase the risk of bone fractures.

Disease/Condition Glossary

Gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD): It occurs when stomach acid frequently flows back into the food pipe (oesophagus). This backflow (acid reflux) irritates the food pipe and causes heartburn. Symptoms include heartburn, sour or bitter taste in the mouth, and difficulty swallowing.

Stomach/Peptic ulcers: They are sores that develop on the stomach and intestine lining due to erosion of the stomach's protective lining. Symptoms include nausea, appetite changes, bloody or dark stools, unexplained weight loss, vomiting, and indigestion.

Zollinger-Ellison syndrome: It is characterised by the formation of tumours in the upper part of the small intestine, which leads to excess acid production. Symptoms include bloating, burping, weight loss, loss of appetite, nausea, and vomiting.
